A finger that clicks, catches or locks can be more than a minor inconvenience. πŸ‘†

Trigger finger can affect everyday tasks such as gripping, writing, using tools or opening jars. In many cases, symptoms can be improved with the right treatment plan, but persistent locking or pain should be assessed properly.

For specialist assessment of shoulder, elbow, hand or wrist conditions, book a consultation with Mr Pantelis Tsantanis.

Gardening is a wonderful way to stay active, but repetitive gripping, pruning, digging and forceful squeezing can sometimes irritate the flexor tendons in the hand. πŸŒΏβœ‹

Trigger finger may cause the finger or thumb to catch, click, lock or feel stiff, especially in the morning. When symptoms persist, early specialist assessment can help reduce discomfort and prevent worsening stiffness.

Small changes, rest, splinting, hand exercises or targeted treatment may help restore smoother hand movement and make daily activities more comfortable again. πŸ‘

Book a consultation for expert assessment and personalised treatment advice.

πŸ’ͺ Distal biceps tendon rupture

A distal biceps tendon rupture usually occurs when a sudden heavy load is placed on a bent elbow, often during lifting, catching, pulling, sport, gym training or manual work.

Common signs may include sudden pain at the front of the elbow, a pop or snapping sensation, bruising, swelling, weakness with lifting, and difficulty turning the palm upwards.

Early assessment is important to confirm the diagnosis and guide the most suitable treatment plan whether that involves rehabilitation or surgical repair in selected cases. 🩺

If you have experienced sudden elbow pain or weakness after an injury, specialist advice can help you understand your next steps.

A soft lump at the back of the elbow may be a sign of olecranon bursitis, inflammation of the small fluid-filled sac over the tip of the elbow.

In many cases, it is not serious and may improve with simple measures such as rest, ice, elbow padding and avoiding direct pressure on the area.

However, medical assessment is recommended if the swelling becomes red, warm, painful, rapidly larger, keeps returning, or is associated with fever or feeling unwell. These features may suggest infection or another underlying cause that needs prompt treatment.

For specialist assessment of elbow, shoulder, hand or wrist conditions, book a consultation with Pantelis Tsantanis.

Elbow, or olecranon, bursitis is a common cause of swelling over the tip of the elbow.

It may develop after repeated pressure, a minor injury, recurrent irritation, or occasionally due to infection or inflammatory conditions such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis.

Many cases improve with simple measures such as rest, ice, elbow padding and appropriate anti-inflammatory medication. However, specialist assessment is important if the swelling is painful, red, warm, persistent, recurrent, or associated with fever.

Early diagnosis helps guide the right treatment, from reassurance and protection to aspiration, antibiotics or further care when needed.

For specialist assessment of shoulder, elbow, hand or wrist conditions, book a consultation with Pantelis Tsantanis.

Golfer’s elbow, also known as medial epicondylitis, is a common cause of pain on the inner side of the elbow.

Although it is often associated with golf, it can affect anyone who performs repeated gripping, lifting or wrist movements, whether through sport, work or daily activities.

Symptoms may include inner elbow pain, tenderness, stiffness, discomfort with gripping, or reduced strength in the hand and wrist.

In many cases, symptoms improve with rest, activity modification and a structured physiotherapy programme. However, persistent or worsening pain should be assessed, especially if it begins to affect your daily function, work or sport.

Not every shoulder, elbow, hand or wrist problem requires surgery.

In many cases, pain and reduced function can improve with a carefully planned non-surgical approach, including physiotherapy, activity modification, splinting, medication or targeted injections.

Surgery is usually considered when symptoms continue despite appropriate treatment, when daily function is significantly affected, or when there is a structural problem that is unlikely to improve on its own.

A specialist assessment helps identify the cause of the problem and guide the most appropriate treatment plan.

Q&A: When should I see a specialist for shoulder, elbow or hand pain?

Pain can sometimes settle with rest and simple care, but if it does not improve, keeps returning, or starts affecting your work, sport, sleep, grip strength, or daily activities, it is best to arrange a specialist assessment.

Symptoms such as stiffness, numbness, weakness, reduced movement, or persistent pain should not be ignored.

Early diagnosis can help identify the cause of the problem and guide the most suitable treatment plan before symptoms become more limiting.
