Autumn is the most underused season in skincare, and if you're serious about your skin, now is the best time of year to act.

While everyone else is still thinking about the end of summer, we're already thinking about what your skin will look like in October, November, and beyond.

Sun exposure has settled, the skin can finally tolerate the treatments and ingredients that deliver the most significant results, and there's enough time before the new year for those results to actually build.

The habits and treatments you put in place now are what make the difference, and this checklist covers exactly where to start 👉🏼

Tap the link in bio to book a consultation, and let's put your autumn plan together 💌

Come behind the scenes at Kayleigh’s Obagi Medical training day 🤍

We take continuing professional development seriously here, so when Obagi invited us to deepen our knowledge of their medical-grade range, Kayleigh was first in the queue.

The day was a proper deep dive into the science behind Obagi, from the Nu-Derm system and their 20% Vitamin C to Blue Peel Radiance and the beautifully hydrating Hydrate and Daily Hydro-Drops. Understanding exactly how each product works, and who it’s right for, is what allows us to build skincare plans that actually deliver, rather than sending you home with a shelf full of products you don’t need.

She even managed a lovely walk along the river and past the abbey ruins between sessions, so it wasn’t all serums and study!

This is the sort of thing that happens quietly in the background, but it’s what keeps our advice current, evidence-based and genuinely tailored to your skin. When Kayleigh recommends an Obagi product, you can trust there’s real knowledge behind it 💙

Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns I see, but here’s the crucial part most people miss. The right treatment depends entirely on which type you have.

Pigmentation isn’t one single thing, and treating it with the wrong approach can, in some cases, make it considerably worse. So understanding what type you’re dealing with is the whole foundation of getting a genuinely good result.

If you’re noticing early pigmentation in the form of freckles or small sun spots, then a light-based treatment like IPL is a wonderful option. It targets the pigment directly, drawing it to the surface where it darkens, scabs and gently sloughs away, revealing clearer, more even skin underneath. Paired with a targeted skincare regimen, the results can be excellent.

But if your pigmentation looks more like melasma - those larger blocks across the upper lip or cheeks - IPL is absolutely not the answer and could aggravate it. This type needs a very different, more considered approach, built around a clinically proven skincare programme and diligent sun protection.

Whichever type you have, this is a brilliant time of year to start addressing it, as the sun becomes less intense.

If you’ve been struggling with pigmentation, DM ‘PIGMENT’, and we’ll work out the right approach for you, or head to the link in our bio to book a consultation 💌

The UK aesthetics industry is under-regulated, and that's not an opinion; it's a fact.

Almost anyone can take a short course and start offering injectable treatments, and that should concern anyone considering booking one.

That's exactly why I'm very open about how this clinic operates: I think patients deserve to know what they're walking into before they book anywhere, including here.

These are the things we do every single day to make sure my patients are properly looked after, and ask yourself whether your current clinic does the same ➡️

If you've been dealing with widespread facial redness and visible thread veins that feel impossible to manage, this result shows exactly what IPL can do when it's used properly.

This patient came to us with an extensive network of visible blood vessels and significant diffuse redness across the skin, the kind that feels relentless regardless of what skincare you use or how carefully you manage your routine.

After a course of IPL, those vessels have dramatically reduced, the background redness has calmed considerably, and the overall skin tone looks so much clearer and more even as a result.

IPL targets the haemoglobin in those visible blood vessels directly, causing them to collapse and be naturally reabsorbed by the body over the following weeks.

It works at the source rather than managing what's on the surface, which is why the results look so different from anything topical skincare can achieve on its own.

For patients dealing with rosacea or vascular skin concerns, particularly those going through menopause where skin reactivity often increases, this is one of the most effective treatments available and one I recommend consistently.

If persistent redness or visible thread veins are something you've been struggling with, DM me 'IPL' and let's talk about whether it's the right next step for your skin 💌

Meet Kayleigh 🌿

We're so pleased to welcome Kayleigh to the team here at The Skin Specialist Nurse.

Kayleigh is a Registered Nurse with over eight years' experience in skin and aesthetics. She started out as a qualified Beauty Therapist in luxury spa settings, where her passion for skin health really took hold, before moving into specialist medical skin clinics. From there, she became Lead Skin Therapist at one of the UK's leading medical skin clinic groups, building deep expertise in laser therapies, chemical peels, skin rejuvenation, and fully personalised treatment programmes.

Wanting to bring medical knowledge together with everything she'd learned about skin, Kayleigh trained as a nurse, and she still works in acute care within the NHS alongside her role with us, which means her clinical standards are second to none.

What our patients will love most is her honesty. Kayleigh believes the best, most natural-looking results come from pairing the right professional treatments with medical-grade skincare and a proper long-term plan, all tailored around your individual goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Come and say hello, we know you're going to be in wonderful hands 👋

Autumn is the best time of year to invest in your skin, and if you've spent the summer in the sun, this is exactly the moment to address what's been left behind.

Pigmentation, dullness, dehydration, and the collagen breakdown that accumulates with months of UV exposure don't resolve on their own, and the cooler months are when we can make the most significant progress of the entire year.

The most effective resets are planned rather than reactive, with treatments sequenced to build on each other rather than compete.

This is exactly how we'd approach that, from assessing where your skin actually is right now through to the treatments and homecare that will get it back to its best ➡️

Most people know they should wear SPF every day, but knowing and actually doing it consistently enough are two very different things, and the gap between them is where a significant amount of preventable skin damage accumulates over time.

This is about understanding what's actually at stake: the pigmentation, loss of firmness, persistent redness, and dullness I treat in clinic every single day are almost always caused or significantly worsened by inadequate sun protection over the years.

Here’s what's really happening when you skip SPF, how the skin changes, how it accelerates, why most people aren't applying it correctly, and the options I recommend for daily wear that actually sit well under makeup ➡️

If you'd like help finding the right SPF for your skin or want to review your routine properly, tap the link in bio to book a consultation and let's make sure your skin is properly protected 💌
