CTA is calling for a fully funded uplift to the Approved Mileage Allowance Payment (AMAP) rate so that organisations can support volunteers without added financial pressure.

The AMAP rate helps ensure volunteers aren’t left out of pocket when using their own vehicles, but it has stayed the same since 2011 and is due an uplift.

With increasing fuel and vehicle costs, there’s growing concern that the current rate no longer reflects reality. A new rate is likely to be announced by the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves MP, in her Autumn Budget and we are calling for a fair review.

Meet bact volunteer driver Josh and read why he loves driving for bact.
"For the past 2 years, I’ve been proud to volunteer with BACT alongside my role as a carer for my daughter with SEN. It’s a journey that has shown me how powerful community, connection, and compassion can be. Meeting new people, offering support, and helping those who are vulnerable truly makes all the difference—not just to them, but to me as well. Volunteering has given me purpose, friendship, and the chance to make a positive impact while balancing the responsibilities that matter most to me".

Annette loves driving for Bact, read about her experience below.

I started as a volunteer driver after returning to the UK when I turned 60. My husband was home all of the time and I needed to find something useful to do that would get me out of the house a few days a week.

When I began I did 3/4 days a week, I now, 14 years later, do one day with BACT and one day with voluntary Norfolk/HTG patient transport.
Simply, I love driving, I love meeting people, it's a great way to combine the two.

Andrea started driving for Bact in August last year. This is what she has to say about it:

"I absolutely love driving for Bact.
It’s a great feeling knowing you are helping so many people, who would otherwise be unable to get to their appointments & it’s so lovely to meet lots of different people, and everyone is so grateful that you are volunteering.
It’s so flexible, you can choose exactly when you want to drive, & as few or as many hours as you want. The staff at Bact are brilliant, they are so efficient & helpful & I feel very supported by them. The joining up process is very straightforward & didn’t take long before I could get started.
You’re provided with a super polo top & hi vis, & with my ID badge I feel very proud to be part of the charity."
