10 years!
Peter celebrated his graduation 10 years ago today and today he celebrates being a chiropractic graduate for 10 years! ⭐️
We asked Peter to reflect on the last 10 years and to share 10 things he’s learnt since joining the chiropractic profession… 💭
1 - Listen - People have a story to tell, value it. Listen with passionate curiosity and validate their lived experience.
2 - Less is more - It’s easy to get excited to show people what they need to start doing to help themselves because you’re passionate about what you do. Remember, overloading people with too many things can feel overwhelming and that may cause them to disengage with the very things that may help them.
3 - You’re not for everybody - Not everyone’s going to like you and that’s okay. Don’t take it personally.
4 - Honesty - If someone asks you something you don’t know the answer to, tell them, then find out.
5 - Gratitude - The people you see will share with you some of the most important things in their life. You’ll find out someone is pregnant before their family, you will support them in their grief. Be grateful that you get to play a role like this in someone’s finest and darkest moments of their life, it means everything.
6 - People aren’t “difficult” - If you think someone is being “difficult” it just means you probably don’t understand them or their communication style.
7 - Make it relevant - If you can help someone connect with why they’re doing an exercise and relate it to how it’s relevant to them, they will understand it’s importance and connect with it better.
8 - Be Alfred - Clients are the hero in their story. They need an ally. Being an ally means providing them with everything they need to overcome their challenges. Too many clinicians want to be Batman when the client needs Alfred.
9 - Kaizen - Every day is a learning opportunity. Always leave better than when you arrived.
10 - Patience - Movement coaching requires time, patience and experience to help the person in front of you learn through their learning style how to perform something they’ve never done before.
