The Rucksack We Carry❣️
Sometimes we convince ourselves that we have dealt with the things life has thrown at us. We tell ourselves, “I’m fine now. It’s in the past. I’ve moved on.”
But have we really?
Imagine that every difficult experience, hurt, disappointment, loss, fear or trauma is placed into an imaginary rucksack that we carry on our back. At first, we barely notice the weight. We keep going. We get on with work, family, relationships and everyday life. Another difficult experience comes along, and we put that in the rucksack too. Then another and another.
One day, the rucksack becomes too full. Something small happens and suddenly everything comes spilling out. We may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, emotional or simply unable to cope. What appears to be a reaction to one particular moment can actually be the result of years of things we never really allowed ourselves to process.
Perhaps the answer isn't to wait until the rucksack is overflowing. Perhaps it's to take things out, one at a time.
Reiki can be one gentle way of supporting yourself while you begin to make that space.
Reiki can provide a quiet opportunity to switch off from the outside world, reconnect and become more aware of what you may have been carrying emotionally.
Reiki isn't about magically removing everything from the rucksack. Instead, it can be part of creating a safe, peaceful space in which we slow down, breathe and begin to listen to ourselves.
We don't have to wait for the breakdown.
We don't have to carry everything alone.
And we don't have to empty the entire rucksack in one go.
Sometimes healing begins simply by taking out one thing at a time — acknowledging it, allowing ourselves to feel it, and then choosing not to carry it quite so heavily anymore.
Your rucksack was never meant to be carried forever.❣️
