When people think about mental health support, they don’t always think about a bar. But for us thats EXACTLY the point!

Carter’s isn’t your typical bar, it’s a space built on the belief that the best conversations often happen in the most normal places. In the pub, over a drink, sitting with a mate. Talking about life, football, work… and sometimes, the things that feel a bit harder to say out loud.

The bar is named after a best friend who was deeply loved and is still deeply missed, after losing him to su***de 14 years ago. It’s a reminder of why these conversations matter, and why they can’t wait until things get really difficult.

We know the pub has always been a place where people open up without even trying. So instead of avoiding that, we’ve embraced it. By creating a space where you can come in, grab a beer or a water, and just be. There’s no pressure or judgement in here it’s, just somewhere to sit down and talk.

This also isn’t about alcohol, it’s about comfort and familiarity. It’s about making it easier to check in with each other in everyday life.

At Powered By Mates, we believe mental health conversations should sit right alongside the rest of life, not separate from it. And when they do, they become a little less scary, a little more natural, and a lot more powerful.

With this week being Mental Health Awareness Week, it feels especially fitting as we begin another cohort of the Six Connections training🥹

Mental health conversations are so important, not just this week, but every single day. Creating spaces where people feel able to talk, learn, listen and support one another is something that really matters, and that’s exactly what this programme is all about.

This cohort is already shaping up to be one of the most varied groups we’ve had, with people joining from such a wide range of businesses, industries and backgrounds. It’s amazing to see so many different perspectives coming together with the same goal of learning more about mental health and how we can better support ourselves and others.

We’re really excited to watch this group grow over the next six months, build connections, share experiences and develop both personally and professionally throughout the training💙

On Saturday night the guitars were dusted off - as a little tribute to our pal Ian 🥁

We invited a few old uni pals to join us and treated ourselves to a couple of beverages 🍻

Fair to say it was an emotional rollercoaster 🎢

A room full of people sharing stories, memories and a lot of love ❤️

Some hadn't seen each other for 20 odd years, but it felt like yesterday.

The thing about great friendship is that even when life, distance and time get in the way, you still pick up from where you left off.

There's no sales pitch here - although our new pad makes a cracking gig venue 😂

This is just a little nudge to pick up the phone and tell your mates how smashing they are ☎️
