Be breast aware and and know what's normal for you. If you notice any changes to your breasts, make an appointment with you GP. Please remember: early detection of breast cancer can help save lives.

It’s the beginning of the month - time to check your breasts!

There’s no right or wrong way to check your breasts. But it is important to know how your breasts usually look and feel. That way, you can spot any changes quickly and report them to your GP.

Every woman’s breasts are different in terms of size, shape and consistency. It’s also possible for one breast to be larger than the other. Also, don’t forget MEN CAN GET BREAST CANCER TOO - so don’t forget to check yours chaps!

Get used to how your breasts feel at different times of the month. This can change during your menstrual cycle. For example, some women have tender and lumpy breasts, especially near the armpit, around the time of their period.

After the menopause, normal breasts feel softer, less firm and not as lumpy.

The NHS Breast Screening Programme has produced a 5-point plan for being breast aware:

💜 know what’s normal for you
❤️ look at your breasts and feel them
đź’ś know what changes to look for
❤️ report any changes without delay
💜 attend routine screening if you’re 50 or over

Why does early detection of breast cancer screening matter? Five year survival rates are 99% when breast cancer is found early.

The NHS Breast Cancer Screening Programme aims to detect cancer before any changes to the breast are seen or felt. If you are eligible for breast cancer screening, please attend your appointment when invited. Early detection can help save lives.

What early detection actually changes 👇

When breast cancer is found early, the 5-year survival rate is 99%.
That can mean less aggressive treatment, more options, and better outcomes.

Early detection isn’t about living in fear.
It’s about having the knowledge, tools, and habits that help you notice changes sooner—and act faster.

Education is the first step. Consistency is the next.
