Pendleside Hospice exists to promote and enhance the quality of life for people with advancing long term and life limiting illnesses, as well as provide support for their families and carers 💛 Local people commenced fundraising in October 1988 to provide hospice care for Burnley and Pendle people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting-illnesses. A day care service soon followed and we were allocated space at Pendle Community Hospital, whilst fundraising continued to build the Hospice, which opened in 1997. Since then, many thousands of local people have benefitted from our specialist palliative and end-of-life services. We now offer day therapy, specialist physiotherapy, complementary therapies, inpatient care, 24/7 hospice at home, counselling, bereavement support and spiritual care. Pendleside was built “by the people and for the people of Burnley and Pendle”; a statement that remains true today. Our vital services are only possible because of the outstanding charitable support of local people, who have given generously to Pendleside over many years. Without that support, the Hospice wouldn't be able to provide care that is relied upon by so many local families at very difficult times in their lives.

Just two Wainwrights to go! ⛰️

Joe Maden (aka One Legged Wainwright's) has taken on the incredible challenge of completing all 214 Wainwrights to raise money for Pendleside Hospice, and he’s now just two walks away from finishing! 💛

Joe has also set himself a new goal of raising £10,000 – and he’s getting creative with his fundraising!

For donations, Joe has been taking clothing requests. He’s worn a Blackburn Rovers shirt for £100, will be tackling Scafell in an Everton shirt, and for his final walk he’ll be wearing a tuxedo! 🤵‍♂️

He’s even agreed to wear a tutu for £10!

Joe will be setting off at 6am this Saturday to conquer Great End. ⛰️

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our Walking & Coffee Morning Bereavement Support Group this Monday at Pendleside Hospice. 💛

Held on the first Monday of every month, our group is open to anyone who has recently lost a loved one and would like to join us for a gentle, supportive walk.

We usually walk around a mile and a half, but there’s absolutely no pressure to keep up. Everyone is welcome to go at their own pace, whether you walk slowly, need a little extra support or use a mobility aid. 🦆

We’ll meet at 10am in the Hospice reception, before heading out for our walk. It’s a chance to enjoy some gentle exercise, make new friends and spend time with others who understand.

After the walk, everyone is invited back into the Hospice for a brew, a croissant and a chance to sit, chat and enjoy some company. 🥐☕

At 7am this morning, over 200 incredible walkers set off on a 26-mile challenge, aiming to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in under 12 hours, all while raising vital funds for Pendleside and nine other hospices. 💙

A huge good luck to everyone taking part! 👏🥾

And a massive thank you to all the amazing volunteers marshalling and manning the aid stations. 🙌 Your support makes such a difference — especially on a wet morning like this!

Have you been to Jumbles yet? 👕👗

Our Jumbles charity shop on Keirby Walk has now been open for two months, but if you haven’t popped in yet, now’s the perfect time to come and have a look around!

Jumbles is a little different. We take donated clothes that might have a loose thread, tiny hole or a zip that’s seen better days and give them another chance, rather than sending them off to be recycled.

And the best bit? Everything is just £2, or 3 items for £5! 🛍️

Every purchase gives clothing a second chance and helps fund vital care for local people and their families across Burnley and Pendle. 💛

Tomorrow, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Mayor of Pendle, will take on a very special challenge!

He will be walking from Nelson Town Hall to the summit of Pendle Hill and back, raising money for his three chosen charities: Pendleside Hospice, the NK Foundation and East Lancashire Down Syndrome Support Group. ⛰️

We’re incredibly grateful to Nadeem for choosing Pendleside as one of his charities during his mayoral year and for taking on this challenge to support local people and families.

Every step he takes will help raise vital funds for Pendleside Hospice, helping us continue to provide compassionate care and support to local people living with a life-limiting illness, as well as their families.

Thankful Thursday 🫶

A huge thank you to the Read & Simonstone Club for organising their fantastic Fashion Show back in May, in collaboration with Narazuke Boutique Padiham, in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

It was a wonderful evening, and thanks to the generosity and support of everyone involved, an amazing £1,008 was raised for Pendleside.

Special thanks go to Steve Neary for all his hard work in organising the event, and to Narazuke Boutique in Padiham for their generous donation and support. Thank you also to everyone who attended and helped make the night such a success.
