Pendleside Hospice exists to promote and enhance the quality of life for people with advancing long term and life limiting illnesses, as well as provide support for their families and carers 💛 Local people commenced fundraising in October 1988 to provide hospice care for Burnley and Pendle people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting-illnesses. A day care service soon followed and we were

allocated space at Pendle Community Hospital, whilst fundraising continued to build the Hospice, which opened in 1997. Since then, many thousands of local people have benefitted from our specialist palliative and end-of-life services. We now offer day therapy, specialist physiotherapy, complementary therapies, inpatient care, 24/7 hospice at home, counselling, bereavement support and spiritual care. Pendleside was built “by the people and for the people of Burnley and Pendle”; a statement that remains true today. Our vital services are only possible because of the outstanding charitable support of local people, who have given generously to Pendleside over many years. Without that support, the Hospice wouldn't be able to provide care that is relied upon by so many local families at very difficult times in their lives.

Meet the Team Tuesday 💛

Sammie Sawley – Chef

First of all, we'd like to say a huge congratulations to Sammie for recently completing her Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification at Blackburn College and being crowned the 19+ Student of the Year award! 🏅👏

We are incredibly proud of everything Sammie has achieved during her 13 months at Pendleside. Her dedication and hard work have shone through from day one, and we can't wait to see her continue to grow and flourish in the kitchen.

Sammie said: "It's such a rewarding job. The staff are all amazing, and the people we meet day to day are people we may never have crossed paths with otherwise. It's a real privilege."

When she's not in the kitchen, Sammie enjoys playing netball, following Burnley FC home and away and spending time with her two wonderful granddaughters.

We need your help! 🙏

🚗We are currently looking for more volunteer drivers to support our Meals on Wheels service.

Our drivers are vital to the success of the service, ensuring hot, nutritious meals reach people across our community who rely on them.

As demand for the service continues to grow, having enough volunteer drivers is essential. Without sufficient drivers, there is a risk that fewer meals can be delivered, impacting the support available to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

For many of our service users, the visit provides more than just a meal. It offers a friendly face, social interaction, and reassurance that someone is checking in on their wellbeing. 💛

Whether you can spare an hour a week or several hours across multiple days, every contribution helps us continue providing this vital service and ensuring no one misses out on the support they rely on.

If you'd like to find out more about becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Hospice at Home team are BACK with another fantastic fundraising car wash next Saturday! 🚗🧽🫧

We had such amazing support from our community the last time the team hosted a car wash and we were blown away by how much was raised! 😊

Head down to the Hospice from 10am-4pm on Saturday, 27th June. The team will be situated to the right, down towards the Donation Centre.
