As Dementia Action Week comes to a close, we’re reminded that awareness doesn’t stop at the end of a campaign.

Every conversation, every act of patience and every effort to understand helps build a more dementia-friendly community. Thank you to our teams, families and residents for helping create environments filled with kindness, dignity and support.

Did you know? Dementia affects everyone differently.
While memory loss is commonly recognised, dementia can also affect:
How someone processes sound
How they interpret what they see
Communication and language
Confidence and emotions
Everyday tasks and routines

Understanding these experiences can help create more compassionate and supportive environments for those living with dementia.

Dementia doesn’t always begin with memory loss alone.

Families often notice small changes first:
Repeating questions
Becoming confused with dates or places
Struggling to find words
Changes in mood or confidence
Difficulty with everyday tasks

Recognising signs early can help people access support sooner. This Dementia Action Week, we're helping raise awareness and encourage conversations 💙

This afternoon we took part in a lovely church service led by the clergy of St. Peter’s Church. It was such a wonderful opportunity to come together for reflection, worship, and shared moments of peace ♥️

It’s been really special watching our residents take part in our little sunflower project over these past few weeks. Most of the sunflowers are growing beautifully 🌻✨

This Dementia Action Week, we’re celebrating the little moments that often become the biggest moments A favourite song playing, sharing a cup of tea, a familiar face, a laugh together — these simple moments can provide comfort, connection and joy.

Creating meaningful experiences isn't always about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the greatest difference.

This Dementia Action Week, we’re reflecting on the importance of understanding the world through someone else’s eyes 💙

When we joined the Dementia Experience Training, it gave some of our staff the opportunity to experience some of the challenges people living with dementia can face in everyday life. Tasks that may seem simple can become confusing, overwhelming or frustrating. Experiences like this help us build greater understanding, patience and empathy – ensuring we continue creating environments where people feel supported, respected and understood.

We went one step further and brought that experience into our training, now everyone has the opportunity to undergo the experience to gain new insight and cultivate empathy.

This week marks Dementia Action Week (18–24 May) — an important opportunity to raise awareness, encourage understanding and inspire action. Dementia affects millions of people, not only those living with a diagnosis, but also families, friends and carers who support them every day.

Dementia Action Week is about starting conversations, challenging misconceptions and helping create communities where people living with dementia feel understood, supported and valued. At our homes, we understand that every person’s journey is different, which is why providing compassionate, person-centred care remains at the heart of everything we do.

Throughout the week we'll be sharing information, experiences and highlighting the importance of understanding dementia and the difference small acts of support can make.

Toes were tapping, hands were clapping, and some of us got up to have a dance too! We enjoyed the Cliviger Ukulele Band’s performance, performing some classics that all of us had a sing along too 🎤🎶
