Running isn’t compulsory.

The internet may tell you otherwise on the daily…

You don’t NEED to run to be fit, healthy or strong.

But if you CAN run, and you actually quite like doing it, there are some VERY good reasons to keep going.

❤️ Cardiovascular fitness
🧠 Mental health & brain health
🦴 Strong, load-tolerant bodies - it’s not “bad for your knees”

Start where you’re at. Build gradually. Strength train alongside it.

And please don’t let someone tell you that you’ve only got a finite number of miles in your knees.

Bodies adapt to load.
For the long game.

September has kick started 🤸✨

Featuring:
Sea 🌊
Last of the summer ☀️
Celebrations 🥂
Team expansion 🤝
School holiday juggling 🤪
Life out side of gym kit 💃🏼🕺🏼

Things to note for the month ahead:

Sunday Physio clinics with Rebecca Smith Physiotherapy start NEXT WEEK 🙌🏻 Use the link in bio to book 🔗

My Saturday clinics are blocked out until October now - celebrating being alive and a big upcoming birthday from here on in (plus I’ve worked nearly every Saturday since I was 13 so thought I was due a few consecutive ones off 😜), if you need a Saturday slot with me next month, plan ahead 👌

Next month we have AfN Registered Associate Nutritionist | Meg Butler holding her menopause and hormone health workshop - DM to secure your space. This is the perfect opportunity to gain evidence based/non-faddy/real life advice on navigating hormone shifts ✨

We look forward to seeing you all soon 💙

These days there’s a lot of chat about step counts, heart rate, VO₂ max and what we can lift in the gym.
And it’s all good stuff 🙌🏻

But sometimes the useful stuff is much simpler.

Can you get yourself off the floor?

Can you balance confidently on one leg?

Can you pick up and carry something reasonably heavy?

None of these are a pass/fail test for health - and there are plenty of reasons why someone may struggle with one or all of them.

But strength, balance, mobility and physical capacity matter.

Not just for sport.

For staying independent.
For reducing falls risk.
For carrying the shopping.
For getting off the floor.
For keeping doing the things you enjoy as you get older.

We’re big fans of training for performance.

But we’re even bigger fans of training for life.

Strong. Capable. Useful.

Save and test these 3 things to see where you’re at:

1. Sit down on the floor and stand back up without using your hands

2. Balance on one leg then the other for 10 seconds or more

3. Carry something heavy - suitcase, shopping, kettle bell or kid…

These will test your body strength, coordination, balance, mobility and grip strength for every day tasks 👌

And we love us some functional strength.
For the long game 💙

Sometimes nutrition support isn’t about an overhaul. It’s about getting you back on the right track.

No fads.
No restriction.
No being handed a list of foods you’re never allowed to eat again.

Just individual, evidence-based advice that takes into account your health, your circumstances and what’s actually realistic for your life.

We loved receiving this feedback for Meg 🤍

After breast cancer treatment and courses of steroids had changed this client’s weight and relationship with food, Meg worked with her over several appointments to help her find a healthier, sustainable way forward.

And that last bit is IMPORTANT.

Sustainable > quick fixes. Every time.

If you’ve been feeling a little lost with nutrition, whether that’s around your health, weight, training, recovery or simply wanting to eat better without making food your full-time job, Meg is here to help.

August bits ‘n bobs 🤩☀️☕️💃🏼🕺🏽🤸👟🌅

Weather in extremes, movement, munch, mini breaks and absolutely loads of you in clinic - THANK YOU 💙

September diaries always ramp up as the kids go back to school and people remember they have back pain to sort and a little more brain space to do so - please plan ahead by booking online where you can 👌

The exciting news is Rebecca Smith Physiotherapy has now opened up Thursday evenings and Sunday physio appointments in clinic - available to book via the website 🙌🏻

I’m also about to absolutely milk turning 40 next month from here on in because, let’s be honest, we might as well have a good time for this short time we are here 💃🏼
I expect Physio content to be a little slower as a result and Virgo season to be featured heavily - please feel free to mute or unfollow if this isn’t your vibe as I 100% lap this up ♍️ 😜

We are now just over 5 and a half years in to the Franklin Physio journey and we are so grateful to you all for being part of it 🤍

Need to see one of us in clinic soon?

You asked. We listened. 👋

More evening appointments. More weekend appointments. More options to make physio actually fit around real life.

We’re very happy to welcome Becki Smith to the Franklin Team.

Becki brings 12 years of MSK physiotherapy experience with her, working with everything from injuries and post-op rehab to tendinopathies, persistent pain and getting people confidently back to the things they love doing 💙

And outside of clinic she’s a big believer in practising what you preach when it comes to health, movement and fitness.
Gym, running, hockey, HYROX… she gets it.

Very much a play the long game kind of physio. 💪

From the 10th September, Becki will be offering:

- Thursday evening appointments
- Sunday appointments

Her diary is NOW OPEN 🙌🏻

So if weekday daytime appointments have never quite worked with your schedule, this one’s for you.

Welcome aboard, Rebecca Smith Physiotherapy 💙
