Just a few little reminders for those of you who are navigating any stage of parenthood! ❤️ ✨

A bit of Baby B update as it’s been a while, and lots of you have followed our pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey 🫶🏻

10.5 months, fully in our waving at anything inanimate, or at you behind your back after you’ve tried to get him to wave at you for the last 5 minutes.

He’s finally mastered rolling in this last week (yes I’m aware he’s 10.5 months 😂) and can move himself around by wriggling and a slight bum shuffle, but no crawling or standing here (hurrah!! 😂)

We’ve had a rough month with him not eating much (post illness) and breastfeeding more which has meant I’ve been more sore than ever, and contemplated continuing breastfeeding more times than you’d imagine. But equally nothing else settles him more than b**b, obvs, and I’m too lazy to try much else!

Sleeping is still the pits, but I don’t expect much else and if we get a good night that’s a bonus! He has however slept in a travel cot with his grandma a couple of times which has made me feel so much better about his transition to a childminder in a few months!

Motherhood 2.0 has been so different to what I imagined in so many ways, but also everything I wanted in so many ways. It’s taught me more than I realised it would, and I’m continually trying to remind myself that alongside my children learning the ways of the world, I’m still also learning how to do this.

Blog post on this and more coming soon!

Keeping things real… We are in the absolute pits of sleep deprivation here currently. Husband recovering from an operation, 4yo with night terrors and a 10 month old who wants to be attached to the b**b ALL NIGHT LONG.

Here’s a picture of the bottle of formula I attempted to give him last night in the absolute desperation of trying to get him to sleep for any length of time. I’ve never formula fed my babies, no judgement to anyone who does/has done, but it’s just something we’ve never needed. Obviously the baby laughed at me as I tried to give him this (literally) and then proceeded to scream until I put a b**b in his mouth.

Motherhood is hard, breastfeeding is bloody difficult and sleep deprivation is torture. I’m going to write a blog post (when I get 5 minutes!!) about our feeding journey as it hasn’t been linear in the slightest. We’ve had so many hurdles… At least I’ve got all the experiences to be able to support clients through 😂

I hope by sharing it’ll help someone else feel less alone.
Sending love to those of you in similar situations, my inbox is always open ❤️

Co-sleeping… Most will say they’re not going to do it, but some studies have shown around 60-75% of breastfeeding mums will co-sleep with their baby at some point! I think it’s such an important topic to talk about so always make sure I discuss it with my families during pregnancy.

I’ve co-slept (and still do!) with my children. I actually started with my daughter, after a midwife in the hospital encouraged me to on night 2 when I wasn’t getting any sleep… What a 💎 of a midwife 🥰

When my son came along, I tried putting him in the bedside crib on our first night but couldn’t sleep. My husband laughed and said “just put him in the bed” and that’s where we stayed until around 5 months postpartum. I then sold all of his nursery furniture and got our floorbed set up… We all get more sleep this way and we haven’t looked back!

Co-sleeping is safe if you do it correctly, and I really recommend looking at the Lullaby Trust website for info on how to do this. Preferably have a look in pregnancy, so you know how to do this safely before baby arrives, rather than at 3am when you’re knackered and trying to work out how to get through the night feeds safely!

I’m really happy to share my experience with co-sleeping and what helped us so please ask any questions below! 👇

Breastmilk adaptations… And the bloody awesomeness of our bodies!!! 🤯👌🏽☀️

I rarely pump, mainly because I haven’t had much need too, and also because I don’t get huge amounts when I do which can be frustrating. With my daughter it would be 20-30mls at a time!

Today although I was only out for one visit, I knew my baby had been feeding more (because of the heat) and thought because we’d used some freezer stash with me at work the last few days, I probably should try and get a pumping session in.
This is about 110ml just from my right side 😳 the left side wasn’t so bothered about joining in apparently 😂 But I was shocked and amazed in equal amounts!

Did you know breastmilk adapts depending on your babies age, health, the time of day?! This was something we were chatting about in today’s antenatal appointment.

A few examples include…

🌙 Nighttime - increased melatonin compounds to support sleep

🥵 If it’s hot, your milk might be a bit more watery/larger amounts.

🦠 Breastmilk is full of antibodies/white blood cells/healthy gut bacteria, but when your baby is unwell, their saliva sends signals to your body to tell it what they need at that time! 🤯🤯

👶🏼 During growth spurts, your baby feeds more to increase your supply

Imagine an antenatal appointment, where alongside the usual offer of checks for you and baby, you also have the space to craft, create and talk… That’s exactly what today’s appointment looked like and it was wonderful!!

Our client made a vision board with photos and affirmations, whilst I doodled an affirmation card for her. All whilst chatting through birth dreams, fears and a bit of everything else in between.

We also included a bit of colouring and clay modelling with the children too ❤️

Someone pinch me… How is this my job?!?! 🥰🥰🥰

I can’t believe this glorious birth was a whole year ago!!

I’ll never forget this day, supporting my friend whilst she birthed her baby at home.

Happy birthing-day to my gorgeous friend, who has also been there for me continually through our postpartum journeys together ❤️

Hello 👋 I’m back!!

I’ve been away in Greece with my family for the last couple of weeks and it’s been such a lovely break, hence the silence on here! Working alongside with .anglianmidwives has meant I was able to take a proper break… I switched my phone off and didn’t put it back on until I was home, and it was wonderful!

Looking forward to getting back to seeing our clients and catching up with the enquiries for our winter families! If you want to know more about how we can support you at .anglianmidwives please send me a DM to find out more!

Cannot believe I actually get to post this!! But a few weeks ago I was asked to do a podcast session with the team, for a new miniseries hosted by the wonderful ❤️

It was such an enjoyable hour, sitting and talking about my work as a midwife and the huge journey I’ve been on in my career so far. So many discussions, recounting stories from memorable births and talking about my work now as an independent midwife 🫶🏻

Listen our every Tuesday for a new episode, and little old me at some point! 🤭

Thank you so much to the team and for this incredible opportunity and for shining a light on our profession in such a positive way 💕
