The countdown is on to the start of which officially starts this Friday and, hitting the ground running with an early start to their activity is Three Counties Equine Hospital.

To celebrate they are hosting an informative evening session tomorrow (2 June at 7pm) designed to bring veterinary surgeons, SQPs and pharmacists up to date with the latest guidance on parasite control in horses. What a brilliant idea and we'll hopefully be sharing images from the event later this week. A big thank you to Three Counties Equine Hospital for organising this event and for supporting the first ever National SQP Week! Join us tomorrow for our next LIVE CPD Academy webinar: 6 May 13:00-14:00 - Risk-based management with endoparasite control in companion animals with Hany Elsheikha. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of our presenter: https://www.amtra.org.uk/AcademyDates

The blanket use of endoparasiticides has been under scrutiny and is no longer considered responsible or acceptable. Changing mindsets and altered approaches are needed. A risk-based approach to endoparasite control will reduce inappropriate use of endoparasiticides.

Hany, chair of ESCCAP UK, will delve into the current thinking on what risk-based management looks like and how this can shape informed discussions with animal owners. Incorporating advice at the time of supply when this is deemed necessary will further help lower risks associated with use.

Join us tomorrow lunchtime (22 April) for our next LIVE CPD Academy webinar - The importance of advice to reduce worm risk and the vital role of the equine SQP in delivering this - with Jacqui Matthews 12:30-13:30 https://www.amtra.org.uk/AcademyDates.

Advice is a cornerstone of the SQP role. Resistance to equine wormers is prevalent and every interaction is an opportunity to slow the development of resistance. The importance of informed advice and sound discussions with horse owners to reduce inappropriate use of wormers and slow the development of resistance is key. Professor Jacqui Matthews will talk through this and the CANTER guidelines, to which she made significant contributions.
