Bit of a real one tonight ā„ļø I dropped Oliver off for his class at the gym this morning, got back in the car⦠and cried š
I walked past everyone waiting for their yoga class and realised Iām just so frustrated with how much fitness Iāve lost in the last 12 months.
Itās not like I was ever going to run a marathon š but I had worked hard to build up my fitness, with swimming and yoga and body pump and over the last 12 months things havenāt gone to plan.
My knee, my health, new medication⦠and slowly Iāve watched so much of what Iād built up disappear.
Even swimming takes it out of me at the moment.
And I hate that.
I think sometimes we talk about getting active as though everyoneās starting from zero and building upwards. We donāt talk as much about what it feels like when youāve already worked hard, life happens, and suddenly youāre starting again from somewhere you never expected to be.
So what else can I do? š¤·āāļø
I can be frustrated about it. I can have a cry in the car.
And then I can work with the body Iāve got today, rather than constantly comparing it with what I could do a year ago ā„ļø
A swim that feels hard still counts
A walk still counts
Doing less than I used to doesnāt mean doing nothing
And maybe this is something I want my members, and anyone thinking about joining me, to know tooā¦
Iām not standing at the front of group with everything figured out, telling you what you should be doing.
Iām on my own journey right alongside you ā„ļø
I know what itās like when your body doesnāt cooperate. I know what itās like to lose motivation, to struggle with your weight, to know what you could be doing and still find it bloody hard to actually do it š
Thatās why Iāll always try to understand first.
Weāll figure out what works for you, where you are right now, together ā„ļø
Today, this is where I am.
A bit frustrated. A bit emotional. But still trying š
*Edit*
Thank you everyone for such lovely responses, I was just typing how I was feeling hoping it might reach one person and let them know theyāre not on their own, and weāre certainly not are we ā„ļø
I think with hindsight it was the row of people I used to do yoga with, waiting for the yoga class I used to do, while my yoga mat sits collecting dust at home š that got me.
And on reflection, how wonderful that I actually miss it⦠because 5 years ago I wouldnāt have. I wasnāt interested in activity or moving my body. And now I miss it, and i WILL get back to it before the end of the year* šŖ
