Tonight's workshop topic for my beginner mentorship students! Now that they have all been piercing basic placements for a few months, they are beginning to experience common questions from clients, and as their own client bases are growing, they have been able to see the benefits and consequences of industry advice for themselves. This is always one of my favourite discussions so I am looking forward to the session

I will post some discussion points next week. Students need to be able to address this question from different perspectives and back up their answers with verifiable facts. In other words.... just saying "You can't swim if you have a new piercing" gets a big, fat 0 points.

Reposting again! I've had questions from people whose kids had their ears pierced at the start of summer but are having drama with piercings when taking them in/out at school. Their piercers stated that the piercings would be "fully healed" in 6 weeks.
🙂 FACT: The end to end process to FULLY heal a piercing can take up to 2 years!
🤔 CONTEXT: A piercing will heal enough to allow a change of jewellery (downsize to a slightly shorter piece) in around 4-12 weeks. There is no magic number as people heal differently, and different areas of the body take different times to reach this point, but this allows the removal of the initial long jewellery once swelling has reduced.
🤓 DEFINITION: A fully healed piercing in practical terms is something which you can change the jewellery in freely as often as needed without it playing up. It is free of all pain, completely dry, matches the colour of it's surrounding skin and can also be left out for a large amount of time without you having to fight to get the jewellery back in.
🤩 PROOF: If earlobe piercings were fully healed in six weeks, kids wouldn't get drama from them when they take them in and out for school or PE! Healed "enough to change the jewellery" is NOT the same as FULLY healed
⬇️ EXPLANATION
There are 4 stages to the healing process:
1. HAEMOSTASIS: When the minor bleeding caused by the piercing process clots. This happens very quickly.
2. INFLAMMATION/DEFENCE: Swelling occurs at the piercing site. This is important for healing and the reason we use longer initial jewellery
3. PROLIFERATION: DO NOT TWIST JEWELLERY! Collagen is produced to support healing, and soon, a new (fragile) skin layer begins to form inside the piercing channel. Your body makes new blood vessels to help nourish the new cells so they build more efficiently. This happens during the first 8 weeks. Changing jewellery too early or too frequently breaks the new skin and sets the healing back.
4. REMODELLING: The fragile skin inside the piercing starts to become strong as it slowly changes from being a collagen structure into proper, working structure. This part of healing
is what brings us to 18-24 months

It feels very surreal writing this and it’s been very hard to keep secret, however we’re now able to announce some unbelievable news!

We have been shortlisted as Regional Finalists for Fundraiser of the Year for Pride of Britain 2026!

Monday to Thursday this week will show each of the 4 finalists and what they do, we are due to be broadcast on Thursday with the winner announced this Friday 11th September.

We don’t make Glaston-BURY happen for praise or publicity, we are just a small team who want to bring a smile to our town and help local causes when we can. It’s your ongoing support that makes this event such a success, so this one is for all of us ♥️

Just to be recognised as part of such a prestigious event means the absolute world and we are completely humbled to have made the top 4 in the North-West.

Off topic for me, but some love needs to be shown to the people, businesses and charities who provide funding for community defibrillators. The one we made use of this weekend following a medical incident in the local was near the pub, and although the person in question passed away a few hours later, the defib unit did its immediate job, and provided support for his heart until the Paramedics arrived to take over. The dice don't always land in our favour, and all that any of us can do is help as best we can, but those little boxes are priceless.

SHOP CLOSED TODAY DUE TO PERSONAL APPOINTMENTS

I will be open as usual tomorrow. Bizarrely this has worked out well because as well as my appointments, it also turns out that the main road near my house has also been closed due to some emergency works, so getting to the shop may have been somewhat dramatic. Maybe the stars have aligned to enforce a cosy day!
