A WORD OF WARNING
Please read as it might save you from a lot of problems.
I have just come back from holiday .
Unfortunately my husband couldn't come.
We arrived at Manchester Airport excited only to be told that my husbands passport wasn't accepted despite it being valid until 2027 with nearly 12 months left before it expired.
However, it was the issue date that caused the problems.
If you have a red passport, you cannot fly if it is over 10 years old. My husbands was 5 days over the 10 years.
Nobody seems to be aware of this. 10 other people were turned away before us that day.
I have spoken to lots and lots of people at work everyday, out and about, family, friends etc, and I have only come across one person that knew and only because it happened to her friend of hers!
My husband went to Westhoughton post office to renew his passport and they said that it was still valid until 2027 and too early to renew......they knew nothing about it and that was the post office that fill in the passport forms for you!!!
Please be aware of this if you are travelling with a red passport as it was very stressful and heartbreaking when he couldn't come with us x
