Recently, I stumbled upon a discussion on Instagram where a doctor questioned whether walking qualifies as exercise.

While I believe her intention was to emphasise the importance of strength training alongside walking, I couldn't agree more.

Problem is, not everyone can strength train or wants to. I understand, if someone is overweight the thought of doing exercise can be intimidating, uncomfortable or painful.

So while I agree that for optimal health, we need to be walking, strength training, eating lots of wholefoods etc....for some people it's not realistic and they can feel disheartened hearing the message that "walking isn't exercise".

So the good news is that walking definitely IS exercise.

I wanted to send a positive and motivational message to anyone who is struggling with their health that you can get HUGE benefits by walking each day.

In my blog, I cover research studies that show you how hitting a certain step count based on your age can reduce your risk of dying young and how increasing steps can reduce your risk of fatty liver disease, heart disease and certain cancers.

Also, I’ve shown a study on how timing of your walks can be really beneficial in helping blood sugar levels – great if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic.

This might ruffle a few feathers, but I think it’s important to say:

If you're regularly following people like Glucose Goddess, JFK, Paul Saladino, or Vani Hari (The Food Babe) we’re not going to be a great fit to work together.
And that's okay.

I’m not here to mock or criticise anyone (unless they really ask for it ha) but I am here to be clear about how I coach.

🚫 I don’t promote fear based nutrition or extreme food rules
🚫 I don’t encourage cutting out fruit, dairy, or entire food groups (unless medically needed)
🚫 I don’t believe in “clean eating” as the only way to be healthy
🚫 I won’t make you fear additives, seed oils, or the occasional processed food

✅ I use a science based
✅ I look at your whole life, your stress, sleep, hormones, and habits
✅ I believe in education, not fear
✅ I support you to build habits that actually last

If you're into food fear, “toxins,” or believing there’s only one “clean” way to eat, I won’t try to change your mind. But I’m not the coach for you.

I know it can feel confusing to know who to trust online, especially when someone has slick videos, a book deal, or a big following.

Next week, I’m sharing a few of the science based practitioners I trust and learn from.

If you're tired of being told to fear fruit or demonise oats, you’ll want to see this :)
