Post-diagnostic support is what differentiates services and it’s something that I feel very strongly about.

Providing a thorough assessment and subsequent diagnosis (when diagnostic criteria is met) is the easiest part.

Currently we provide more post-diagnostic support than almost all other services but we still don’t provide enough.

That’s about to change.

Whilst we’re Wales based our team includes experienced clinicians across the UK and we’re more than happy to travel to you for Autism and combined Autism & ADHD assessments.

For us location is not a barrier to a thorough, neuro-affirming assessment.

Despite our name (My Autism Assessment) we also provide ADHD assessments for children and adults.

We toyed with calling the service “My Autism & ADHD Assessment” but felt it was a bit of a mouthful!

It’s the last weekend before school starts for a new academic year next week.

As a parent of a child with emotional based school non-attendance (EBNA) this was always one of the most difficult weeks as we watched our friends rightfully celebrate their child’s first day back at school photo with themselves and their siblings.

These first few days and weeks were often filled with pangs of jealousy as we watched the children flourish going to school whilst we struggled to get them out of bed; to get them dressed; to get them to eat some breakfast; to get them into the car and ultimately to get them out of the car at the destination.

Yes some days and some weeks we had “success” however looking back this success was through the lens of masking their differences and this would have a profound detrimental effect.

Researching through my own clinical work it was evident that the majority of children with emotional based school non-attendance were in fact undiagnosed neurodivergent children despite their schools, and ours, stating they had “no concerns”.

Thankfully, my wife met one CAMHS clinician who suggested our child may be neurodivergent and now with the dual diagnosis of Autism and ADHD I feel we are one of the lucky families who at the very least now have a better description of their needs and differences and as such we have been able to advocate for them using this evidence to obtain a local authority maintained EHCP and an education and therapeutic package they can actually access.
