Caring for senior horses & ponies 💜

As we know, as horses age, we see the physical signs of them slowing down and becoming stiffer in their movement, losing top line/condition and generally not having the same energy levels that they used to have.

This is due to the life energy or chi that flows through the body becoming less vigorous.

Reiki and acupressure both work on restoring and boosting the chi energy and thereby improving the conditions associated with aging.

If your horse does have mobility issues, reiki and acupressure treatment does not involve any stretching or movement but will improve any stiffness and associated pain or discomfort - they can keep their hooves firmly on the ground!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of treating some of the team at Bullies Out to a reiki taster session for their wellbeing day.

Bullies Out is a fantastic charity who achieve so much with only a small team- they make a huge difference to individuals, schools and workplaces. In recognition of their dedication and hard work, providing a reiki taster session was my way of giving something back to them - a pause in a busy day to take time for their own health and wellbeing.

The feedback on reiki was how relaxing it is and how much more chilled the ladies felt afterwards. Amazing what can be achieved in 30 minutes per person and in a workplace environment 💜

Affirmations are positive statements intended to promote self belief and motivation. Because they work by replacing negative thought patterns with healthy ways of thinking, they can have a positive impact on the brain and body.

So, how do they fit into a reiki session?

The intention of reiki is to rebalance the flow of energy through the chakras. Any blockages in this flow cause physical and emotional ill-health.

If we consider the heart chakra, it is the centre of love and compassion. If there is an imbalance in the energy flow here, it may lead to feelings of loneliness, the inability to give or receive love or feeling insecure.

Affirmations which could be used to re-balance the heart chakra are:

❤️ I love myself
💙 I am worthy of love
💚 I welcome love
💜 I am grateful

Affirmations help release negative emotions thereby helping to rebalance the chakra which leads to an improvement in physical and emotional symptoms.

Today is the first day of autumn 🍁 Whilst for some, the thought of cosy jumpers, snuggly blankets and candles is something to look forward to, for others, the thought of autumn and winter fills them with dread.

The transition into autumn can lead to lower mood, decreased energy levels and reduced motivation. Self care at this time of year is crucial.

Self care is defined as the practice of intentionally engaging in activities that promote and maintain one's wellbeing across physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions.

One of my favourite sayings is 'You can't pour from an empty jug'. If you allow your energy or compassion reserves to run dry, you will not be able to care or support others. Compassion fatigue is a real thing!

Therefore it is essential to prioritise time for yourself in order to re-charge your batteries ❤️

Having previously worked in HR for over 20 years, I am passionate about the fact that employees should be rewarded and recognised for the contribution that they make to organisations. The success of any organisation is dependent upon the commitment, effort and performance of their employees.

The wellbeing of employees is also crucial to that success

I offer the opportunity to come into organisations to offer 30 minute taster sessions for up to 9 employees per day for a cost of £225 (plus mileage dependent on where you are based).

Today is National Relaxation Day 😌

Relaxation is important for the following reasons:

💤 Reduces stress
💤 Improves cardiovascular health
💤 Improves focus, memory and creativity
💤 Strengthens the immune system
💤 Promotes better sleep
💤 Reduces pain by relaxing muscles
💤 Improves mood
💤 Boosts energy levels

Reiki is a deeply relaxing treatment - some clients fall asleep! It is fantastic for relaxing muscles. Some clients have thought I use heat pads but it is the heat that reiki energy is generating to encourage the body to heal.

Reiki continues to work for 24 hours after the treatment so the benefits can still be felt after the session has ended.

✨There’s something about the sound of quiet chewing in the stillness.
🐎The way a horse just stands there — not trying to fix you, just being with you.
✨And suddenly, the weight you’ve been carrying doesn’t feel quite so heavy.

No one asks you to explain yourself.
No one hurries you along.
You’re just allowed to be — messy, tired, joyful, anxious, human.

The barn doesn’t care if you cried on the way there.
It welcomes you anyway.
And the horses?
They listen with their whole heart.

It’s not therapy.
But it’s a kind of medicine.
The kind that reaches places words can’t always touch💕
