For Volunteers' Week, we want to shine a spotlight on current and former cancer patients who are using their lived experience to shape the design of the new hospital.

Elaine Chapman, Lead Advisory Nurse says: “The impact of working in co-production with the Patient Advisory Group and the broader Network of volunteer patients and carers, all of whom bring invaluable lived experience of cancer, has been truly transformative."

She adds: "While professionals may sometimes assume they know what is best, listening to those with first-hand experience reveals perspectives that we might otherwise overlook. Whether it’s making thoughtful adjustments, such as relocating a changing room, or addressing barriers to access for those less familiar with technology, these insights are both humbling and essential. They ensure our new hospital is genuinely designed to meet the needs of its users as well as its professional teams."

A BIG THANK YOU to the intrepid travellers who raised over £40,000 for the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital and Cambridge Children's Hospital during their recent expedition to the Great Wall of China.

The team trekked a remote section of the Great Wall of China from Gubeikou to Jinshanling and Simatai, over five days.

Donna Lee-Willis, ACT’s Head of Community Fundraising said: “It was a real challenge, with lots of tears and fears, but also plenty of smiles, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.”

We’re delighted to announce that acclaimed artist Ivan Morison has been commissioned to create a major new public artwork for Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital.

Working in collaboration with patients and staff, Ivan will design a large sculptural mural for the foyer of the new hospital, alongside bespoke exhibition screens and seating.

The piece will be crafted using clay sourced from historic pits across the East of England, finished with beautiful glazes.

Entitled The Welcome, this is the first of several art commissions for Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital. Situated in the entrance atrium, it will shape the arrival experience for patients, staff and visitors.
