I'm Emma, a Somatic Shamanism practitioner based near Cambridge, offering one-to-one sessions online so I can work with people wherever they are.

What is Somatic Shamanism?

Somatic Shamanism is a holistic healing approach that works with the whole person — mind, body, soul and spirit.

It brings together three areas of healing:

Parts work — connecting with the calm, compassionate centre within you — what we call Self energy — and from that place getting to know the different parts of your psyche. The wounded parts we tend to exile or push into the shadows, and the protectors that work hard to keep them there, with the intention of keeping you safe.

Somatic work — exploring where old wounds and unresolved experiences are held in the body, because so much of what we carry lives in our physical experience, not just our minds.

Shamanic healing — drawing on support from the invisible realms, including the spirit medicine of plants, trees, stones, animals, ancestors and elemental energies. The shamanic practice is particularly powerful for helping wounds release their pain and for ancestral healing — transforming what has been passed down through our lineage.

Together these create something truly holistic — healing that reaches the places other approaches often don't. It helps shift unconscious survival strategies such as low confidence, people pleasing, anger, procrastination, depression, anxiety and addictions, and heal the wounds beneath so that we can live more authentically in Self and realise our full potential.

Does life ever feel like one painful lesson after another? (Mine has lately)

I support people through some of their hardest moments — helping them find the calm centre beneath the chaos, understand the parts of themselves that are struggling, and make sense of what their pain is trying to tell them.

And right now, I'm doing exactly that work on myself.

The last twelve days have brought me to my knees. Something happened with my son that touched some of my deepest wounds — my own history with trauma and addiction and the long road it has taken to come back from that, the pattern of being lied to by someone I love, and the part of me that wants to grip tightly and control when I'm afraid.

In the midst of it I have felt very sorry for myself. I didn't deserve yet another painful challenge to overcome. There was definitely a very loud "f**k you, universe" happening in my head.

And then something shifted. Somewhere in the middle of the pain I found myself saying the serenity prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

And then — thank you. I know this is going to be hard, but thank you for giving me this opportunity to heal this desperately controlling part of me.

Having learned by now that these painful challenges are never random, I guess it's time for another round of healing.

This is what walking the walk actually looks like. Not having it all figured out — just being willing to keep going back in.

I'm still in it. I don't have a neat resolution to offer you. But I do have this — whatever you're going through right now, you're not alone in being brought to your knees by life.

We just have to keep getting back up. 🌿
