With your help, we can fund events like this to celebrate the incredible impact communities like the Windrush Generation and our Caribbean colleagues have had on our NHS.

Yesterday, for Windrush Day, your support sponsored this event to bring staff, patients and visitors together for community engagement, conversation and learning. We are so proud to stand behind events like this through our Stronger Together initiative, and thankful to the diverse communities that form the backbone of our NHS. 💙

Thanks to the work of CUH Arts, which your generous donations help support, a beautiful exhibition has gone up in the gallery space showcasing the creative journey behind 'The Welcome' - the reception artwork for the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital that forms the first touchpoint between patients and the hospital. ✨

With your support, this groundbreaking new hospital will bring new innovations to the bedside faster, detect cancer earlier and treat it more precisely, and the people-first design of the hospital will benefit from artwork that helps reassure and inspire patients during their most vulnerable times.

Shaped through collaboration with patients, staff and artists, this exhibition explores how colours and materials were chosen to create a calm and welcoming space for all. 💙

You can find it in the Addenbrooke’s Gallery, along the long corridor between the central Addenbrooke's concourse where the shops are and the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre.

Addenbrooke’s has won a national award for a pioneering service developed at your hospital.🏆

Whole genome sequencing is an NHS test that can transform cancer diagnosis and treatment by identifying patients who may benefit from targeted therapies or access to clinical trials.

This vital test has the key drawback that samples need to be rapidly frozen and stored frozen until they can be tested. Not all hospitals have the specialist facilities to do so. ❄️

This new service that has now been approved for national rollout uses a liquid preservative that means tumour samples can be collected and preserved immediately anywhere and sent to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust without the need for freezing.

This will ease environmental impact and allow up to three times more patients to benefit from whole genome sequencing, changing cancer outcomes. 💙🙌

Did you know Addenbrooke's has it's own charity to help bring innovations like this to patients? Find out more:

A pioneering service developed at Addenbrooke’s Hospital has won a national award and is now approved for use across the UK – helping up to three times more cancer patients benefit from whole genome sequencing (WGS).

WGS is a cutting-edge NHS test that can transform cancer diagnosis and treatment, identifying patients who may benefit from targeted therapies or access to clinical trials.

By removing the need to freeze tumour samples, doctors can now collect and send samples from any hospital, making this life-changing test more accessible across the East of England.

Dr John Tadross, a consultant molecular pathologist at CUH and molecular pathology clinical lead for East Genomics, who led this innovation, along with colleagues, have been presented with the Royal College of Pathologists Achievement Award 2026 for Sustainability at a ceremony in London. The honour recognises the environmental benefits of transporting samples without freezing.

A major step forward in improving cancer diagnosis and treatment. 👏

One of the amazing things you support is connection. 🫂

For patients who have undergone laryngectomies - life-changing surgery removing all or part of the voice box - communication can be challenging and overwhelming afterwards.

Over Christmas, you helped connect 18 such patients to share experiences, joy and healing. The impact of bringing people together who've handled similar health experiences can transform the recovery journey, and acts as a vital stepping stone back into social situations following complex, life-altering surgery. 💙

"It gives an opportunity to talk to others with similar issues and experiences which is not always possible."

"I felt Mum's presence beside me—her warmth, her blessings, and her unwavering support in every mile. Some journeys are driven not just by determination, but by love that never leaves us." 🥰

Love drives many of our supporters to incredible heights and through tremendous challenges, and we're so proud when their determination and compassion reflects that love back at Addenbrooke's a thousandfold. 💙

Kajal climbed the tallest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, in memory of her mum, while fundraising over £1,000 for Addenbrooke's, battling through 1.5 to 2 feet of thick snow, bitter cold, poor visibility and challenging weather.

"I chose Ben Nevis because it represents the highest point in the UK - a challenge worthy of my mum’s strength and spirit. Reaching its summit feels symbolic of the way she always rose above every difficulty with courage, kindness, and a smile."🌟

Thank you, Kajal, from the patients your incredible trek will help support. 🙏
