Could it be someone you love?

Melanoma doesn't just affect one person.

It affects loves ones, families and friendships.

Right now, across the UK, around 216 people die every month from melanoma, resulting in 2,600 deaths per year (cited from Research UK Cambridge Institute).

That's why monthly support matters.

For just ยฃ4 a month, around 13p a day, you can help Melanoma Focus continue funding vital research, supporting melanoma patients and providing expert guidance through our cancer specialist nurse-led Melanoma Helpline.

Because when someone receives a melanoma diagnosis, they deserve support, answers and hope.

Together, we can help shape a better future for everyone affected by melanoma ๐Ÿ’™

Carers Week is an important opportunity to recognise and thank the incredible people who provide care, support and comfort to loved ones facing melanoma.

For many people affected by melanoma, carers are there through every appointment, scan, treatment, difficult conversation and moment of uncertainty.

Carers can provide practical support, emotional strength and unwavering reassurance when it is needed most ๐Ÿ’™

Whether you're a partner, parent, child, sibling, friend, loved one or professional carer, your support can make an immeasurable difference to someone navigating a melanoma diagnosis.

This Carers Week, we want to acknowledge the incredible support you provide to people affected by melanoma:

Thank you for your patience, compassion, strength and for just being there ๐Ÿ’™

If you are caring for someone with melanoma, please remember that your wellbeing matters too.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Exciting progress in melanoma research.

Researchers have announced promising long-term results from a study investigating a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine for people with high-risk melanoma.

Presented at the 2026 ASCO Conference, the five-year findings from the KEYNOTE-942 trial showed that patients who received the personalised vaccine alongside immunotherapy were less likely to have their melanoma return or spread compared with those who received immunotherapy alone.

Personalised cancer vaccines are designed using information from an individual's melanoma, helping the immune system recognise and target cancer cells more effectively.

While this treatment is not yet available as a standard treatment and is still being investigated in larger clinical trials, these results offer hope for the future of melanoma care.

Every advance in research brings us one step closer to better outcomes for people affected by melanoma ๐Ÿ’™

An incredible challenge. An incredible supporter ๐Ÿ’™

We have a very special thank you to our incredible fundraiser, skin cancer specialist and plastic surgeon, Ewan Wilson, for raising vital funds for Melanoma Focus during his extraordinary 99 Holes of Golf in 1 Day Challenge!

On Friday 29th May, Ewan took on the remarkable feat of playing 99 holes of golf in a single at The Bristol Golf Club.

That meant:
โ›ณ 99 holes completed
๐Ÿšถ Approximately 45km walked โ€” further than a marathon!
๐ŸŽ’ Every club carried by Ewan himself
๐ŸŒ๏ธ Every round completed in under 99 shots

A someone who sees the impact of skin cancer firsthand through his work, Ewan chose to take on this challenge to help support Melanoma Focus, raise vital awareness and funds for patient support and research.

We are incredibly grateful for his dedication, determination and generosity.

Please join us in thanking you Ewan for going the extra mile (and then some!) to support those affected by melanoma ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

You can still support Ewan and Melanoma Focus by donating to his JustGiving page HERE: https://bit.ly/EwansJustGivingPage

If Ewanโ€™s challenge has inspired you to take on your own fundraising adventure, weโ€™d love to hear from you, just email [email protected]

You can hear directly from Ewan as to why he has chosen to raise money for Melanoma Focus.

Take Pride in your skin ๐ŸŒˆ ๐Ÿ’™

This Pride Month, Melanoma Focus would like to share, remember and celebrate the life of Luke Thomas, who sadly passed away on this day last year. He was a much-loved member of the melanoma and pride community whose passion, courage and determination touched so many lives.

After being diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, Luke dedicated himself to raising awareness and supporting others. From walking the entire Welsh Coastal Path and raising more than ยฃ60,000 for Melanoma Focus, to helping organise our Brighton Pride awareness parade, he never stopped using his voice to make a difference.

Luke believed in living life fully, supporting others and shining a light on melanoma awareness wherever he could. His legacy continues through his family, husband, friends and the countless people he inspired, and the awareness he helped create.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we're reminded of a message Luke helped us champion:
๐ŸŒˆ Take pride in who you are
โ˜€๏ธ Take pride in your skin
๐Ÿ‘€ Know your skin and check it regularly
๐Ÿ’™ Look after yourself and encourage others to do the same

This month, every month, we remember Luke with gratitude, admiration and pride.

A Department of Health and Social Care expert committee, known as COMARE, has today published a new report on the "Health effects of ultraviolet radiation from artificial tanning devices in the UK and their control" COMARE report on sunbeds.

You can find the link to the COMARE report on sunbeds by visiting our website HERE: https://melanomafocus.org/news-blog/

This looks at the latest evidence relating to sunbeds and highlights how each of the four nations have taken forward the previous recommendations into legislation, with England implementing the fewest.

The scientific evidence for damage to health from sunbeds is clear and it is recommended that the Government should consider approaches to protect the public, including further regulation, and the effectiveness of different measures.

The report does not specifically call for a ban but says the "Government will also wish to consider whether it is appropriate to introduce a complete ban on the commercial use of sunbeds" and notes that while a ban should save lives and reduce the cost of cancer treatment, it would also constrain individual choice and there are wider policy considerations the Government needs to take account of.

A haircut can help save a life! โœ‚๏ธ

Since the launch of our Life Saving Haircut campaign last week, weโ€™ve been wonderingโ€ฆ

How many barbers and hair professionals have noticed something different on a clientโ€™s scalp, neck or ears or was your melanoma picked up by your barber?

The reality is that many men rarely check these areas themselves, meaning barbers are often in a unique position to spot something unusual.

If youโ€™ve downloaded the guide โ€“ we would like to know:
๐Ÿ’ฌ Has it changed your awareness of skin health?
๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you had any conversations with clients about moles or skin changes?

Help us share this vital awareness and potentially life-saving message by:

โœ… Sharing this post with fellow barbers and hairdressers
โœ… Contact us at [email protected] with your experiences of noticing
moles, lesions or changes on your clientโ€™s head, scalp, ears or neck.

Because a haircut can do more than change a life. It can save a life.

Here at Melanoma Focus, we have found alarming videos of people deliberately burning their skin to clear up acne and other skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Which is why we have teamed up with our ambassador and dermatologist Sarah to debunk the dangerous myths surrounding โ€œburning offโ€ acne and skin conditions.

The truth is:
โš ๏ธ Sunburn is skin damage
โš ๏ธ UV exposure can increase your risk of melanoma and other skin cancers
โš ๏ธ Burning your skin will not safely treat underlying skin conditions

While some people may notice temporary changes in their skin after sun exposure, the long-term damage caused by UV rays can have serious consequences.

Your skin health matters. Protect it, donโ€™t damage it.

๐Ÿงด Use SPF30+ broad spectrum sunscreen minimum
โ˜€๏ธ Avoid burning
๐Ÿ” Reapplying every 2 hours
๐Ÿ‘• Covering up
๐Ÿงข Wearing a hat
๐ŸŒณ Seeking shade during peak UV times (11am - 3pm)
๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ Wearing UV protected sunglasses
๐Ÿ“ž Contact your GP if you notice any worrying changes
