🏃♀️ Race for Life 2026 – I'm doing it!
This Sunday I'll be taking part in Cancer Research UK's 5K Race for Life, and I'd be so grateful for your support. If you're able to donate, please follow the link below.
I'm not doing this just for myself or for one particular person. I'm doing it for everyone. Cancer affects so many of us – whether personally, through family, friends, colleagues, or perhaps in the future. Research saves lives, improves treatments, and gives people hope. That's why Race for Life matters.
A little about me...
I'm a part-time worker and, since January 2026, I've also been running my own Slimming World group at Huntington Community Centre, Stafford Road, Cannock, every Wednesday at 7pm.
I've lived with Type 1 diabetes for 45 years, since childhood. Alongside that I've faced chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, hypertension, an underactive thyroid, and in 2022 I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Following a mastectomy and temporary implant, I was placed on a waiting list for full reconstruction surgery. To qualify, I needed to reduce my BMI and maintain it for at least three months. After trying many different diets over the years, I joined Slimming World in 2024 and finally achieved my goal. Last August, I was able to have my reconstruction surgery.
As someone with Type 1 diabetes, losing weight can be challenging. One thing I love about Slimming World is that treating a hypo is recognised as a medical necessity, not something that counts against you. For the first time in years, I don't feel deprived while managing my weight.
I'm still on my own weight-loss journey, but I've already experienced huge benefits: improved mobility, better confidence, less pain, and better overall health. Even a modest weight loss can make a significant difference to long-term health and wellbeing.
This Sunday I'll be walking, and hopefully doing a little jogging too! Every step is for better cancer research, better treatments, and better outcomes.
If you'd like to support me, please donate using the link below. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps.
Thank you for your support
