Nurture Wellness Beyond Birth Mental Wellbeing Practitioner & MHFA Instructor : preventing poor mental health during pregnancy and throughout parenthood.

When we had our first child in 2018, we'd only been living in Canterbury for two years. Other than my brother and sister-in-law, who both worked full time, we didn't know anyone else. Our friends and other family lived all over the UK so we didn't have many people who we could nip to see for a cuppa and offload.

Working in London didn't really give us an opportunity to meet people here, so when we had Felix we had little support.

We never did NCT or other antenatal groups so when my husband went back to work it was lonely, I would force myself to go to every group going to meet friends. It didn't happen straight away, it took months to first meet people that I thought I wanted to invest in. Then to get to a point where we have a strong network it's taken about five years.

It's not easy to meet people who you think are your people. And when you have children it can be hard to find the time, motivation and energy. Not forgetting the chance to have a proper conversation without having to run after your child!

My personal experience in this was another reason I wanted to create our pregnancy and mothers circles. To create opportunities for people to meet others, not necessarily to meet friends for life, but to give people the chance to meet others who maybe going through similar things to them so we feel less alone. And if you do meet friends for life then that's amazing.

So if you are going through a similar experience to what I did, our groups may just be for you 🌟

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 is upon us. This years theme is Take Action.

I like this theme as I like to help people make positive changes in their life to help improve their mental health.

So let's start at the begining and think about what mental health is.

Mental health is so complex, it's not always easy for people to describe. To truly understand it we need more than a few squares on social media!📚 But here's a start!

If we don't understand what it is how can we make a change?

So what do you think?

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 : Day 7 Voices of the future.

Today is the final day of our awareness week.

Today we stop and think about all that we have learnt from last week and what we can do going forward to help reduce the number of mums and families affected by mental ill health.

By protecting mental health throughout the whole parenting journey we are helping to create healthy, thriving children, families and communities.

This week has reminded me of all the amazing people and services out there who are raising awareness, supporting, advocating and making change happen. It really is inspiring. 🌟

It's also reminded me of my why and my passion for helping families.

So here is what we will be doing next to help reduce poor mental health for mums and families ...

Our monthly Nurture Mama Circles are back! 🎉💛

Our 6 week Nurture Mama to be course is ready to book 🌟

Both groups are running at Barham Village Hall, Canterbury.

Book your place through our website.

What have you learnt from this week? How has it inspired you? Is there anything you will do differently going forward?

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 : Voices of loss and healing.

Today we think about those families who have lost their baby during pregnancy, birth or beyond.

It's never easy to talk about but sometimes not talking about it can make mums and dads feel so lonely and lost in their grief.

Each day can bring different feelings and emotions.

Talking about it may help, when you're ready to talk.

For those supporting loved ones through this sadness, listening is the most powerful thing you can do.

Sending love and light to anyone who has or is going through this right now 🙏

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 day 5 : Voices of Change.

Today we focus on policy, advocacy and campaigns that are helping to change the landscape of care.

Unfortunately, change often comes following sadness.

We know that many people are left without the proper mental health support that they need during pregnancy and those early years of parenthood.

We know that there is a disparity between the support available to black and Asian mothers, those living in poverty, experiencing domestic abuse or multiple disadvantage.

We know that mental health awareness has never been prioritised in antenatal classes or support. (Even as recent as two years ago! 🤯)

But we also know that there are hundreds of people out there campaigning or providing support to mothers and families to make sure they get the support they need, when they need it.

Here we have highlighted Sophie's Law and Sophie Burch. Two people who will help to change the lives of so many mums and families.

We will be sharing other voices of change throughout the day.

Who would you shine a light on for the work they are doing?

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week Day 4. Voices of care.

There are so many amazing services out there that go above and beyond to help mums and families.

Which services have helped you?

Our Health Visitor was the professional who made a difference to our life.

But I can't forget the friends who helped too. and were in the same boat as me. We'd all had babies within weeks and days of each other. You can imagine the messages circulating at 1am!! Thanks ladies you made me smile when I needed it. So does our messages reading them back 8 years later!! Maybe we should turn them into a book 🤣

Fast forward 5 years and it was who was sat texting in the early hours after having a baby a few months before I had my second baby. 🙏🙏 We really do get meme happy when sleep deprived and navigating these early weeks and months 🤣

Why not give the people who were there for you a shout out.

We can't do this alone, we need friends, family, community and professionals.

Day 3 of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 and today is also World Maternal Mental Health Day.

So why do we have these awareness days and weeks? Because a mums mental health impacts many areas of their life. How they parent, how they go about their day, how they respond to others, their relationships, their work, how they view themselves and others, how they think, feel and behave.

A mums mental health matters to herself, her family, her community and our country. Because mental ill health impacts everyone in some way.

We all need to understand what maternal mental health is and why it matters so we can support, advocate and make change happen.

Here are a few reasons why it matters, I could write for England on this!

Why does it matter to you?
