"I’ve managed this far... do I really need an assessment?"

This is a question I hear so often from the adults I see in my clinic.

Many adults, especially women and high achievers, spend decades masking their neurodivergence. On the outside, you might appear organised and calm. But on the inside, it can feel like:

🧠 Constant mental exhaustion from trying to keep up

🧠 Overwhelming sensory overload after a normal workday

🧠 Deep-seated anxiety around saying or doing the wrong thing

🧠 A lifelong feeling of being on a different wavelength from everyone else

When I carry out an adult ADHD or Autism assessment, it is never about putting you in a box. It is about giving you clarity, self-compassion, and practical support tailored to how your brain naturally works.

If you are exploring answers for yourself or a loved one, I would love to help you find that clarity.

A neurodevelopmental assessment is not a test you can pass or fail.

We know the phrase sounds clinical. Heavy. Like something that happens to you in a bright room under fluorescent lights. But the reality is much softer than the words suggest.

Here is what it actually looks like: you fill in some forms about your life. We sit down together and talk through your history, the way your mind has worked since childhood, the patterns you have noticed, the moments things felt harder than they should. It is a structured conversation with a psychiatrist about how your brain developed and why.

That is it. No trick questions. No right answers. Nothing to revise for.

The clinical term can feel like a locked door, especially when you have spent years wondering whether your experiences count as "enough" to be taken seriously. We would rather it felt like a door you can walk through, at your own pace, with someone on the other side who is listening properly.

If you have been putting it off because the language feels intimidating, we understand. Come and have the conversation when you are ready. 🌿

Most people arrive at our door after years of wondering why certain things feel so much harder for them than for everyone else.

Meet Dr Carys Williams, the doctor behind every assessment we offer. She's both a medical doctor and a psychotherapist, trained across counselling, psychiatry, and neurodevelopmental assessment. That combination is rare, and it matters. It means she can look beyond a checklist and see the whole person sitting in front of her: their history, their mental health, their family life, the way they've been quietly coping for decades.

Based in South Wales, Dr Carys assesses and diagnoses both ADHD and autism in children, adolescents, and adults. Some clients are eight years old. Some are in their sixties. Every one of them deserves the same careful listening.

She has sat with the "why does everything feel harder for me?" question thousands of times, and she still doesn't get tired of helping someone finally find their answer. That moment, when things start to make sense, is why we do this work.

If you've been carrying that question for a while, you don't have to keep carrying it alone. We're here when you're ready. πŸ’š

πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸŒˆ Did you know that different colours have become associated with autism awareness and acceptance?

From the traditional blue, to the empowering gold inspired by the chemical symbol Au, and the rainbow infinity symbol representing the diversity of the autistic community, each has its own meaning and history.

The most important thing isn't the colour itself, but creating a world where autistic people feel understood, accepted and supported.

Finding Answers Can Be the First Step Towards Understanding

Many people spend years wondering why everyday tasks feel more difficult than they seem to for others. They may struggle with organisation, concentration or sensory experiences without fully understanding why.

One individual I worked with shared that they had spent much of their life believing they simply "needed to try harder". Following their assessment, they described feeling relieved to finally have an explanation for the challenges they had experienced.

An assessment doesn't change who you are. It can provide clarity, helping you better understand yourself or your child and explore the support that may be available.

Every journey is different, and every person deserves to be listened to with care, empathy and respect.

If you're considering an ADHD or autism assessment and would like to learn more about the process, I'd be happy to help.
