We’re taking a short break over Christmas and New Year to rest and recover, but our Helpline will be back and ready to go from 9am on Friday 2 January 2026.

While we’re away, there’s lots of support waiting for you at diabetes.org.uk. From helpful information to our Online Support Forum, you’ll be able to connect with others who really get what living with diabetes is like 💙

If you need urgent medical help, please call 999. For anything less urgent, NHS 111 is available 24/7 📲

If you’re struggling with your mental health, you can also call NHS 111 (option 2) or reach out to Samaritans on 116 123 as they’re always there to listen.

And if you’d simply like a friendly voice at the other end of the phone, the Check In and Chat service from the Royal Voluntary Service and GoodSam offers free, relaxed chats every day between 8am and 8pm. You can call them on 0808 196 3646.

From everyone here at Diabetes UK, we’re wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a healthy, happy end to 2025 ✨

Did you know people living with diabetes are eligible for a FREE flu vaccine across the UK?

If you have diabetes and get the flu, you are more at risk of being unwell for longer and developing more serious complications like pneumonia. It can also make diabetes harder to manage.

Get in touch with your GP or local community pharmacy to book an appointment. To find out more about diabetes and the flu, including what to do in your region, head to https://orlo.uk/flu-jab_CtYYB

A research study, led by the Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University and supported by Health and Care Research Wales, is recruiting for the first UK T1D-Plus trial.

This is a major international study testing whether a blood pressure medication combined with immunotherapies can slow the immune attack on insulin-producing cells in people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, helping them keep producing some of their own insulin for longer.

🔗 If you're aged 18-44 and have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the past 6 weeks, or know someone who may be eligible, visit: https://healthandcareresearchwales.org/about/news/wales-first-uk-launch-groundbreaking-type-1-diabetes-trial

Wales is the first in the UK to launch the T1D-Plus trial—a major international study testing whether a blood pressure medication combined with immune therapies can help people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) keep producing insulin longer.

Led by the Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University and supported by Health and Care Research Wales, this trial is open to adults aged 18–44 diagnosed within the past 6 weeks.

Know someone who may be eligible?
