For Volunteers Week, we wanted to remind you of what a day in the life of a Volunteer Ambassador at Kidney Wales looks like 💙

From sharing lived experiences and raising awareness to supporting events and connecting with patients and families, our volunteers play such an important role in helping us reach communities across Wales.

Inspired to get involved? We’re always looking for passionate volunteers to help make a difference 👉 https://kidneywales.cymru/get-involved/become-a-volunteer-ambassador/

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy and compassion to help others, just like Wendy 💙

After losing her father suddenly, organ donation became something deeply personal for Wendy. Although only her dad’s corneas could be donated, knowing he was able to help someone else brought comfort during an incredibly difficult time.

Inspired to make a difference herself, she joined the living kidney donor programme and, after years of determination, testing and preparation, donated her kidney through the altruistic sharing scheme in January 2023.

Her donation helped change four lives.

Later that year, she met her recipient, Helen, and the two have remained close ever since - turning an act of kindness into a lifelong connection.

“The whole experience has been amazing. I would do it again if I could.”

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say thank you to people like Wendy, whose selflessness and generosity continue to change lives.

🎉 In May 2027, Kidney Wales celebrates its 60th anniversary! 🩵

To mark this incredible milestone, we’re launching 60 for Sixty - a year-long campaign celebrating 60 years of support, community, and impact across Wales.

We’re inviting supporters to take on a “60-themed” challenge to help raise vital funds and awareness for people affected by kidney disease.

Whether you raise £60, walk 60 miles, complete 60 minutes of activity, or create your own challenge, every effort will make a difference.

Join us as we celebrate the past, support the present, and help shape the future.

A huge well done and thank you to Frankie, who climbed Pen Y Fan this week in memory of her Mum, Miffy Shaw 💙

Frankie’s Dad, Gareth, is captain of the Kidney Wales All Stars Ice hockey team, and together they’ve been doing an amazing job raising funds to support people affected by kidney disease. Frankie decided she wanted to get involved too and took on the incredible challenge of climbing Pen Y Fan to raise money for Kidney Wales.

We’re so proud of you, Frankie 👏💙

If you’d like to support Frankie and sponsor her challenge, you can donate here:

A massive thank you and congratulations to Nathan Hazel, one of our dedicated trustees, on completing the Edinburgh Marathon👏🏃‍♂️

After months of training and preparation, Nathan took on the challenge last weekend - and what a fantastic achievement it was, especially in the warm conditions on race day!

Not only did he cross the finish line, but he has also raised an incredible £2,060 for Kidney Wales.

We’re so grateful for Nathan’s dedication, commitment and continued support for Kidney Wales.

Congratulations - an amazing achievement and one you should be incredibly proud of! 💙

Not only did Jody complete 13.26 miles in an amazing 2 hours and 16 minutes, but she also achieved two personal bests along the way:

✨ Half Marathon PB: 2hrs 14mins 33secs - smashing 14 minutes off her previous best!

An incredible achievement, and we’re so grateful for your support, dedication and fundraising. Well done, Jody! 👏
