What a fantastic evening of cricket and community spirit in Penarth!

On Friday 31st July, Penarth RFC and Penarth Cricket Club went head-to-head in the โ€˜Battle of the Athletic Club Ashesโ€™ โ€“ a special T20 cricket match raising funds for Kidney Wales and the rebuild of the Athletic Club following the fire.

Weโ€™re delighted to share that an incredible ยฃ1,590 was raised for Kidney Wales! ๐ŸŽ‰

The community came out in force, enjoying a brilliant game of cricket alongside a BBQ and raffle, with plenty of action to keep spectators entertained! ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ† Congratulations to Penarth Cricket Club, who took the win on the evening.

A huge thank you to all the players, organisers, volunteers and everyone who donated and supported the event. Your generosity will help Kidney Wales continue supporting people and families affected by kidney disease across Wales.

โ€œDialysis does affect your life, itโ€™s unavoidable, but I point blank refuse to be beaten by it.โ€

After being diagnosed with CKD in December 2022 with just 15% kidney function, life changed very quickly. From preparing for dialysis and having a fistula operation, to eventually starting haemodialysis in June 2024, the journey has brought plenty of challenges.

But it hasnโ€™t stopped him from living his life.

He continues to work full time, goes to the gym, has discovered a love of running and still travels โ€“ including trips to Cornwall, Spain, Mallorca and Greece. โœˆ๏ธ

Now on the transplant list, heโ€™s sharing his experience to help others starting their own kidney journey.

His advice? Keep as active as you can, donโ€™t ignore your mental health and have a goal.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to him for sharing his story and helping Kidney Wales raise awareness and understanding of life with kidney disease. ๐Ÿ’™
