It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Elaine Holland, Lupus UK Chair of Trustees.

Many of our local members will remember her from the Cardiff Lupus Information Day in May 2023, where she showed such genuine support and compassion for people living with lupus in Wales 💜

She dedicated her life to caring for others and raising awareness of lupus, and will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and a smile that could light up a room. Her passing is a real loss to our community, and she will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our Chair of Trustees, Elaine Holland, passed away earlier this week.

Elaine was a dedicated volunteer, Trustee and Chair of Lupus UK. She was a passionate advocate for people affected by lupus and a dedicated supporter of the entire lupus community. Through her commitment, compassion, and leadership, she leaves an extraordinary legacy that will continue to have a lasting impact. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with her.

As a Board whose members have direct lived experience of lupus, we understand how deeply news of this nature can resonate within our community. At this difficult time, we want to remind you that Lupus UK is here to support you. Whether you need information, advice or simply someone to listen, our team is here for you at any stage of your lupus journey.

💜🫘 Living with lupus also means having regular urine and kidney (blood) tests. Some people will develop lupus nephritis (kidney involvement), while others won’t, but regular monitoring is important for everyone living with lupus.

This research explores how romantic partners make sense of becoming caregivers, how this transition affects identity, and the emotional, psychological, and relational impact of moving between partner and caregiver during Sjögren’s flares.

Participants will be invited to take part in a 60–90-minute one to one online interview via Microsoft Teams, where you will be asked about your experiences, role changes, and reflections on caregiving. Participation is voluntary, confidential, and you may withdraw at any time.

Hot weather has been forecast for the next few days.

Here are some tips to prevent heat exhaustion and heatstroke:

• Drink plenty of cold non-alcoholic drinks, especially when exercising
• Take cool baths or showers
• Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing
• Sprinkle water over skin or clothes
• Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm
• Avoid excess alcohol
• Avoid extreme exercise.
• Wear a high protection sunscreen

Keep an eye on children, the elderly and people with long-term health conditions (like diabetes or heart problems) because they're more at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
