Our mission is to connect everyone in the world to the restorative power of nature. Cabilla Retreats 2021 are now live! Get in touch via [email protected]

Located in the heart of Cornwall, Cabilla is an upland hill farm at the start of a new chapter. Our goal is to connect you with the restorative power of nature, helping you to switch off in the quiet of the Cornish countryside and find happiness amongst the wilderness. Experience more than 80 acres of ancient oak woodland, famous for its air-purifying lichens. Press pause in wildflower meadows full of butterflies and walk alongside flowing rivers, which are pure enough to drink from and to bathe in. The farm is situated deep within one of the UK’s very few dark sky environments, so there is no unnatural light or sounds from aircraft or traffic, and at night you’ll see an abundance of stars – it’s a calm and uniquely wild place.

Sun soaked moments from our inaugural forest feast earlier this summer 🌳🌞

It never fails to amaze us how quickly strangers become friends here, and that process is only accelerated at our long table sharing delicious, nourishing, locally sourced food. Thank you Leigh Rose for capturing a beautiful evening for us, and of course to the amazing Kate Munro Boot | The Mindful Chefette for creating memories that will stay with us long after the leaves turn and fall.

New forest feast dates for Autumn soon to be announced.

Cosy corners at Cabilla 🌳

After a busy summer we’re calling in a slightly slower pace, a deeper exhale, and the soul-affirming quietude that comes with the changing winds.

If humans could find a way they would engineer a flower that blooms all year round. But the divine forces at play are far more intelligent and know that their temporary nature only adds to their beauty. For a brief window people and pollinators alike buzz around daffodils, bluebells, poppies, dahlias and sunflowers for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of peak vitality, a fleeting pop of colour or fragrance that makes you stop and take notice that something in your environment has changed. And then they’re gone. Finished for another year. Isn’t that all the more reason to appreciate them?

We live in an illusion of permanence, which is why we find strawberries stacking supermarket fridges in November. But this illusion not only robs us of the joys of living in accordance to the seasons and the mindful + heightened awareness that results, it is a dangerous environmental disconnection that cuts us off from our nature as nature, as cyclical and seasonal beings too. Is that what we really want, to have everything always? Or to appreciate what is here briefly, fully?

Thank you to all of our volunteers this year for a flower garden that brings so much joy, and of course the higher intelligence that orchestrates it all. 🌺

Cornwall Council are looking to reintroduce the use of glyphosate on our roads and pavements. Glyphosate is a known carcinogen that has a catastrophic impact on the health of insects, plants, marine life and humans alike.

Please stand with us in strong opposition to this outrageous decision. We have until April 20 to make our voices heard.

Is a river alive? Reflecting on the words of the answer is of course a resounding yes, a little time spent on the banks of the river Bedalder is enough to experience this sense of ‘aliveness,’ the energetic potency, the intelligence that flows but never forces, finds the path of least resistance, renews and sustains life in all of its forms. But for the vast majority of us who are not lucky enough to have such relationship with our waterways, let alone the fewer and fewer of them that remain untainted by the heavy hand of industry, the answer to this question is much like most of our rivers: unclear. Inspiring are the cases of the Whanganui in New Zealand that in 2017 was granted protection as a “spiritual and physical entity” + the Mutehekau Shipu (Magpie Ricer) in Canada declared a “legal person and living entity” in 2021. With such rights in the eyes of the law perhaps we will find our way back to the same levels of respect + reverence for our rivers that was once innate in each and every one of us, perhaps more of us will find relationships with them once more, perhaps the Bedalder will not be such a rare and isolated example of what our rivers once were and could be again. One thing is certain, for as long as we find ourselves here we will give our all as guardians to this divine entity, serving her as best we can, learning from her again and again, offering a place for others to sit and contemplate this question on her banks. This river is very much alive 🩵

The forest is stirring and Spring is almost here 🌼 a huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers who have helped to get everything in place for the upcoming retreat season! There’s been some serious hard work put in to make this the most magical year yet in the Cabilla rainforest 🌳 but with the power of community it has been a joy to be part of. We can’t wait to welcome back old friends + make new ones this year, and show you all how this space is evolving 💫
