Through Pilates, children can gain awareness of their body, and learn how to move efficiently and gracefully.
Pilates can help establish correct principles of movement that children will use for their entire lives. It is a safe, low impact exercise for children as they grow through the stages of development and classes are planned age appropriately.
It will also create a balanced musculature that can alleviate pain and reduce the potential for injury, now and as they continue to grow into adulthood.
A secret superpower; coordinating the mind, body & spirit to optimise inner strength and stability. A constant work in progress!
For each Pilates movement, there is a breath in or out that accompanies that movement. There is also a specific technique for breathing that should be used when performing the exercises. I teach all of these age appropriately!
The main muscles that we focus on in Pilates that are involved in breathing are the diaphragm and oblique muscles.
There are many benefits of Pilates for Teenagers. Here are just a few:
π« They learn skills to prevent injuries
π« They learn mind-body connections which help to improve levels of concentration and focus, which can in turn help with mental health and anxiety
π« Enhances physical performance by working on the core muscles to build strength, especially in the back, abdomen and pelvis
π« Improves confidence
π« Increases Flexibility
π« Improved Posture
π« Increased Muscle Strength, Length and Control
π« Increased Self Esteem and Confidence
If your child/younger adult has any physical or sensory challenges, please do let us know, these sessions can be fully adapted to meet their needs as they are all taught by an experienced Paediatric Therapist.
