This might look like joining a peer support group like Andy's Man Club, or joining a friend for a cuppa or a walk.

Last week we joined other teams from People First Independent Advocacy and The Well Communities for a development day at Castle Green Hotel - managed by Legacy Hotels & Resorts.🎉

We had an amazing time celebrating the achievements of each team, and getting dressed up for the theme of 'Howdy Partna' - in honour of our new connections and partnerships.

Reflecting on our work is very important as it means we have a clearer picture of where we are and what our plans are for the future.

The Healthwatch teams have faced some challenges this year, with the announcement of our proposed closure in the future, but are very grateful for the support we have received from colleagues across People First, and from members of the public and stakeholders who continue to trust Healthwatch as an independent champion of the patient voice.

Have you received corridor care?

A recent NHS England report has revealed that nearly 3,000 people each day receive their care in hospital in a corridor. This means that, due to overcrowded hospitals, patients are being treated in inappropriate locations, from toilets, to storage cupboards and corridors.

Have you received treatment in a corridor during a recent hospital visit?

We would love to know what you think.

Last Thursday, the Healthwatch Cumberland team were joined by some fantastic local services at the People First Conference Centre in Carlisle for an Over 50s Cancer Event.💬

The session was led by the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department for Primary Care Health Sciences, who were keen to find out local people's thoughts on cancer testing trials.

There was lots of information available and the opportunity to discuss what barriers people might be facing when considering speaking to a GP about cancer symptoms, or attending a screening.

Plus, the amazing Cumbria Health team even conducted some free health checks!

Thank you to everyone who came along and to those who supported this event:
Eden Primary Care Network, Northern Cancer Alliance, Cumbria Health, Work Well North Cumbria, People First Independent Advocacy
