The Pope has released a document to help the faithful discern their use of AI .....📱

How should you use AI, according to Pope Leo XIV? Here are three important principles we found in "Magnifica Humanitas":

1. If you’re using AI to get ready-made answers to things, ask yourself if this is genuinely beneficial or likely to weaken your own (magnificent!) faculties of judgement and creativity by lazily delegating them to the machine.

2. Treat any AI-provided answer with due suspicion and never assume it is objective. We know to do this with other sources of information, but many seem to have forgotten that AI also has built-in human biases.

3. Never let the faux-human style of AI communication let you forget that it is not human. It can never share in the grandeur of human creatureliness – and having such a cheap imitation pull you away from genuine human relationships would be both absurd and catastrophic.

We often tie our value to how much we can juggle at once. However true high performance requires the ability to pause and unplug. Just an hour from Carlisle is Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre with beautiful gardens and a stunning temple.

It has been lovely to step away from work for a day and take some time out by turning off the mobile phone and grounding again. I feel most at peace in nature and feel it is the best place for me to have those personal conversations with God and it is the place I usually find most of my direction and ideas. I recommend getting out into nature or find a peaceful garden to wander around or sit a while in this lovely weather we are having 🌞

Take a moment for yourself today.

There is one hymn that makes me cry every time: "Go Tell Everyone." 🥹

The blurry photo was the best that phone cameras could do 20 years ago which is when I had the call to apply for a Chaplaincy position as Roman Catholic Prison Chaplain for HMP Everthorpe. Holding the successful appointment letter in my hands was profoundly emotional.

The following Sunday, as the weight and reality of this new commission were just settling in, we sang that hymn at church:

"He has sent me to give the Good News to the poor,
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more,
Tell blind people that they can see,
And set the downtrodden free..."

Over the last two decades, I have learned that captivity extends far beyond physical brick walls:

🔒 Prisoners exist in situational, psychological, and metaphorical ways.

👁️ Blindness shows up through cognitive biases, emotional denial, and a lack of self-awareness.

⚖️ The Downtrodden are crushed daily by economic, social, political, and institutional systems.

The hymn offers a second piece of profound advice:

"Don’t worry what you have to say, Don’t worry because on that day
God’s Spirit will speak in your heart..."

Whenever I meet someone new who is in deep distress, I internally pause. I ask the Holy Spirit to guide what I say, how I respond, and how I act.

Ultimately, "Go Tell Everyone" serves as the definitive anthem for chaplaincy—a reminder that our core mission is to meet people exactly where they are trapped, blind, or broken, and to serve as a conduit for their healing and freedom.

Happy Pentecost
