Can we admit that being that person who says they ‘never sit still’, ‘never rest’ ‘never relax’, is ‘always busy’ is not a flex, not a badge of honour , not something to aspire to , but acknowledge that perhaps it’s a red flag letting us know that we need to start to be more attentive, more aware. That perhaps we need to learn to intentionally rest, to be more focused, to be able to quiet the busy chatter of our frazzled brains. Perhaps it’s time to explore what might be making us uncomfortable with being still, with being present in the moment, what is it that has us so distracted that we can’t allow our bodies and minds to do what they need to do? Why do you struggle to intentionally rest?
Listen, stress isn’t always bad, to be active, productive isn’t bad , not when it’s done with conscious choice and awareness, but when it gets to the point that we ‘can’t be still’ when we need constant distraction, when it gets to where our nervous system is shot, when we’re anxious and when things are starting to feel out of whack , that’s when we need to pause and check in with what’s happening.
How often are you intentionally still and focused (this is different from sleep)?
How often do you find yourself reaching for the phone, scrolling with no purpose ?
How loud, busy are your thoughts ? How distracted / tired do you feel?
How often are you fully focused on the one thing that you’re doing ?
Life is busy. Busy can be fab. But if you don’t find balance between doing and simply being then it will show up.
Yoga addresses so much more than the physical, it’s a deeper practice, it teaches us not to be led by the fluctuating thoughts, it teaches us to anchor to breath, it teaches us to notice to pay attention ‘self study’
Here’s the thing that part isn’t ‘sexy’ or easy to show on socials as something trendy, and you know it takes time , it takes practice, you might think it’s ‘boring’ and because the results aren’t instant you undervalue it.
But guys, the benefits you will feel are huge !
If we accept that all the physical stuff takes practice and patience then why can’t we accept that the ‘mind’ ‘brain’ ‘nervous system’ takes time , practice and patience too.
