Today is the celtic festival of Imbolc marking the very start of Spring. Traditionally people lit candles or fires at this time to celebrate the return of the Sun. It is also the feast day of the triple Goddess Bridgit. A triple Goddess encompasses all aspects of woman, the energies of the maiden, the mother and the crone otherwise known as the wise woman. Bridgit is also known as a fire Goddess and brings strength and protection. She has come to remind us to call on her for protection when we are thinking of making changes in our lives or are feeling vulnerable. Her strength and protective energy caused the Celts to weave straw into what has become known as Brigit's cross and hung them over their doors to protect their homes. Her message to us today is that Spring is a time of planting seeds, and starting afresh with renewed energy after the darkness of winter. For this reason its important that we set our intention about what we wish for our futures and use the energy of childhood to play with ideas, the caring aspect of the mother and the wisdom of age to set out the ambitions and the changes we wish to create, safe in the knowledge that we are supported and protected by her. Have a happy Imbolc everyone!
