One of the hardest things about choosing hypnotherapy training can simply be working out which information to trust.
Different accreditations.
Different qualifications.
Different course structures.
So I put together a free ebook: “How to Become a Hypnotherapist”
It's a (mostly) non-partisan guide to hypnotherapy training in the UK, to clear up the confusion:
• what the various accreditations mean
• why courses differ so much
• what to look for when choosing training
• and the questions worth asking before you enrol anywhere
It’s designed to help people make informed decisions, whether they train with us or elsewhere.

It's the summer solstice soon, a time that has inspired stories and symbolism for centuries: the longest day, the turning point, the moment where light reaches its peak before gradually beginning to shorten again.
There’s something very metaphor-friendly about that idea. Clients often arrive in therapy at turning points too: moments where something has reached its limit, or where change feels close but not quite fully formed yet.
Seasonal imagery can work really well in sessions because people already carry their own associations with it. Long evenings, growing light, things coming into bloom: they all bring meaning with them before the metaphor has even begun.
It’s one of the reasons I enjoy creating and collecting metaphors in The Metaphor Toolbox. Sometimes familiar images are the ones that land most deeply.

Thinking about training as a hypnotherapist? Or qualified and wondering why nobody warned you about blocked loos, reluctant family volunteers, or the fact that half your friends may think you've gone a bit odd?

In my latest blog, I've shared 10 things nobody mentioned before I trained as a hypnotherapist. It's an honest look at what life as a therapist is really like: the nerves, the surprises, the business side of things, and the privilege of watching clients change in ways they never thought possible.

If you're considering hypnotherapy training, I hope it gives you a realistic picture of the profession. If you're already qualified, I'd love to know which point made you smile in recognition!

What did you want to do for a living when you were younger?
Is it anything like what you do now?
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that many people arrive in therapy work by a very indirect route. I’ve had students who were engineers, solicitors, hairdressers, teachers, and people planning a gradual move into semi-retirement.

There’s something different about summer reading.
People often read more slowly this time of year — outside, on trains, in gardens, in little pockets of time that don’t happen in quite the same way during winter.
And slower reading tends to become more reflective reading too. You notice different things when you’re not rushing through a chapter looking for the next useful idea.
Sometimes a sentence stays with you simply because you had the space to sit with it for a while.

One thing we’ve talked about a lot while developing the new Advanced Hypnotherapy Practitioner course is this:
Advanced practice isn’t really about learning flashy new techniques.
It’s more about:
• flexibility
• judgement
• deeper thinking
• handling complexity calmly
• and adapting your work to the person in front of you

A lot of people assume hypnotherapy training starts with hypnosis techniques.
In reality, it starts with understanding people.
Listening properly.
Building trust.
Learning how language affects thoughts and emotions.
Thinking carefully about ethics and communication.
The next in-person practitioner course starts in September, and applications are now open if you’d like to explore whether it might be the right fit for you.

Summer often changes our routines without us really noticing. Lighter evenings, warmer air, more time outside — even small shifts in environment can affect how tense or settled we feel.
One simple calming habit is to deliberately slow down for a few minutes outdoors in the evening, paying attention to temperature, sounds, and light levels rather than staying inside with screens and noise right up until bedtime.
It sounds very simple, but giving the nervous system quieter sensory input before sleep can make a noticeable difference over time.
Small changes often do.
