It’s taken me a while to step into the more feminine version of me.
In a way it’s been a process of caterpillar turns to butterfly I guess… 🐛
👉🏼 Coming from a fitness background I wasn’t used to makeup or hair dos that took much effort as I’d be teaching lots, training clients, getting sweaty and showering again. To be time efficient for that & shifts etc. there wasn’t much point in doing more than the basic; eye liner, blusher and a short hair cut which felt so freeing!
👉🏼 Motherhood without support totally and utterly overwhelmed me. I couldn’t think about me, my style or ‘beautifying’ at all for years. (I was also encouraged to put myself last and remain small and quiet let me add.)
👉🏼 In more recent years, after abuse and deep betrayal I’ve had to cocoon, to heal and assimilate a f**k tonne of stuff that happened to me.
🦋 Burlesque has been the making of a newer version of me. It really has. Thank you me for choosing it and for being such a guide 🤩
💄 the first big shift was finding and wearing lipstick for the first time
👗 then wearing more colours and different clothes that I wouldn’t have been drawn to before
💇🏻 I’ve been growing my hair to wear it in different ways (and aiming for victory rolls soon!)
… and I love it. And I love who I am, in this season. How I show up. Knowing my worth and being true to MYSELF.

I am 43 and couldn’t be happier to be pursuing burlesque more. After 20 years in wellbeing and holding space I bring my skills, knowledge and passion to teaching burlesque, producing and hosting a show; ‘Velvet & Valour’!
I’m not ‘too old’, or ‘past it’ as patriarchy likes to make out. — And nor are you.
Far f**king from it!! We know ourselves more as we get older. And that’s what they are afraid of 😋.
