Today we popped on Andre Rieu’s Magic of Musicals and finished the mixed media canvas we started working on a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful, calm morning with lots of singing and a splash of colour!

✨This weeks highlights✨

Did you know UNO has become a firm favourite at Knightwood, and our games around the table are always full of laughter, a little playful teasing, and the occasional dramatic "pick up 4!"

The reason it’s a favourite here is because it’s easy to pick up and brings people together. It also gives everyone a chance to chat, concentrate, spot colours and numbers (great for cognitive skills and visual processing) and enjoy a bit of healthy competition!

We also tried Singing for Fun this week, who doesn’t like a bit of Sweet Caroline, brushed up on some Chess skills, welcomed our gorgeous Debutots and admired our Halloween display!

🌟 Congratulations, Nisha! 🌟

Our Wellbeing Coordinator, Nisha Caussy, has been shortlisted for a National Activity Provider Association (NAPA) Award in the Rising Star category!

Nisha's dedication to the wellbeing of our residents is well known within the home, and has also caught the attention of the local press, with features in the Southern Daily Echo and Yahoo News.

We'll find out in January whether she takes the title. Until then, we're keeping everything crossed! 🤞

🐝 We're hive-ing a wonderful week here at Knightwood as we welcomed back Gail from the Hampshire Bee Association, who gave a fascinating talk in The Bee Factory.

It was an absolute buzz and we learnt lots of new facts and had plenty of stories about these hard workers. We tried Welsh, Shropshire and Borage honey alongside Lindisfarne Dark Mead. The talk was bee-yond delightful, and thank you, Gail, for making our day un-bee-lievable 🍯

🐴 Clare popped in with Sparky, who took a real interest in Matt's Seated Exercise class. He certainly knew how to stable-ise the group and gave everyone a hoof-ul of encouragement. We think he's a neigh-tural! No foal play here, just a lot of smiles. 🏇

🎻🎶 Folk music 🎶🪗

We had a wonderful afternoon of live music to kick off our week, thanks to the employee folk band from the Ordnance Survey who kindly came along to play for our residents.

The band treated us to a lovely mix of tunes on violin, recorder and accordion, including a French Andro, some Scottish favourites, and an original piece called the "Zombie Cowboy Waltz" (a title that got a few smiles and plenty of chatter!).

Our residents joined in with shakers and percussion, tapping along and enjoying every minute. It was so lovely to see the room full of smiles and singing along.

A huge thank you to the band for sharing their time and talent with us. You're always welcome back! 💙

🚌✨ All aboard at Knightwood! ✨🚌

Today the Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust came to Brendoncare Knightwood, and they brought a very special guest with them: a number 133 bus! 🚍

Our residents loved stepping back in time and listening to the history of these iconic buses. We chatted about the journeys they used to take around Southampton, relatives and neighbours who used to work as bus conductors and there were plenty of smiles and "I remember that bus!" moments 😊

A huge thank you to the Trust's volunteers for giving up their time and for sharing their love of local transport history with us.

The Trust has been preserving old Southampton buses and other local vehicles since 2001, and it was wonderful to see that history brought to life. Reminiscing like this is a lovely way to spark conversation and support our residents' wellbeing.

Our Coffee & Quiz Club, held on Wednesday mornings at Knightwood Community Hub, is looking for a wonderful new volunteer to join the team!

We’re ideally looking for someone who:
🧠 Enjoys creating quizzes and coming up with fun questions (although this isn’t essential, as we already have a selection of quizzes ready to go!)
🤓 Is happy to lead the session and keep everyone entertained
👋 Enjoys meeting people and creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere
☕ And, of course, doesn’t mind putting the kettle on!

We recently celebrated our Joan’s 101st birthday — and what a life she's led! Once known locally as the "bike lady," Joan spent years as an accountant, led a fitness class after retirement, and always credits a long a healthy life by staying active, eating well, and keeping curious. Not bad advice from someone who's had 101 years to test it!

To celebrate this amazing achievement, she enjoyed her first-ever visit to Wi******er Cathedral's Wild Flower Festival, a family meal out, and a handmade doll crocheted by a fellow resident. The kind of thoughtful touch that makes our Knightwood community so special 💛
