โ€œLets get Control and Change.โ€

About Me:
After many years of struggling with my own weight, nutrition and related symptoms, I began a journey that led me to lose three stone as well as the related health issues. I had so much more energy and had discovered a lot about nutrition. Friends and family started to ask how I had done it and could I help them? I then decided to train and qualify as a Nutritional Therapist. A few months after this, I was faced with a particularly stressful period at work and home. I was introduced to the Control System and attended a Control workshop. Coming away after one day, totally relaxed and in control, I made a decision. I went on to study and qualify as a Control Practitioner and Remedial Hypnotist! During and shortly after this time, I had began to change peoples lives and help them feel in control, balanced and happy again. Taking away stress, fear of heights, anxiety, stopping people from smoking, losing weight and many more. Finally a great opportunity arose. My holistic approach to client care and local knowledge was partnered with an offer to work with, and at, the Lordswood Osteopathic Clinic. Control and Change was born. The clinic is conveniently located at the Lordswood Leisure Centre in Chatham, in the heart of the medway towns and close to the M2 junction 3. Easy links from Gillingham, Sittingbourne, Gravesend and Canterbury and a short hop from Junction 6 of the M20 and Blue Bell Hill from Maidstone, Ashford and surrounding areas. The centre is situated in a quiet country setting overlooking 20 acres of playing fields, with free parking for over 100 cars and disabled access. Regular local buses (166, 167 & 701) stop around half a mile from the Centre.

A lovely bit of news to share ๐ŸŒฑ

Control & Change has been nominated in the Southern Enterprise Awards 2026.

Awards are always nice to receive, but what this has really made me reflect on is how much Control & Change has evolved.

For a long time, people knew me mainly through hypnotherapy and change work.

But over the last year especially, the work has become much clearer.

Control & Change is now built around helping people:
Understand what has been keeping them stuck,
remove the barriers in the way,
and move towards the life they want again.

Sometimes that means anxiety.
Sometimes sleep.
Sometimes confidence, fears, habits, panic or life changes.

But the heart of the work is always the same:

Most people are not broken.
Their mind has often been trying to protect them. The problem starts when old protection begins limiting the life they want to live.

After more than 2,000 client sessions over 10+ years, the thing I am proudest of is seeing ordinary life come back for people.

Going out again.
Sleeping again.
Travelling again.
Driving again.
Saying yes again.
Feeling more like themselves again.

That is what Control & Change is really about.

So this nomination feels like a lovely moment to pause, recognise the journey so far, and keep building what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me, supported the work, shared their story, or quietly followed along.

There is more to come.

One of the biggest lessons I've learnt after ten years.

When I first started helping people, I focused a lot on techniques.

What technique works for anxiety?
What technique works for confidence?
What technique works for fears?

Over time I've realised there are much better questions:
"What is keeping this person stuck?"
"What is holding them back from the life they want?โ€
โ€œWhat will life look like with the thing changed?โ€

Because two people can have the same problem for completely different
reasons.

Different stories.
Different experiences.
Different barriers.

โ€ฆand often, different destinations.

The technique is just the tool.

Understanding where someone is now, and where they want to get to, comes first. Removing their barriers to getting there comes second.

That's probably the biggest reason Control & Change has evolved.

Instead her world was shrinking.

One of my favourite parts of helping people change is not just seeing the problem reduce...
It's seeing what comes back.

For Jan it was:
A shopping trip.
A coffee morning.
Saying yes again.
A trip to Spain.

And perhaps the biggest one...

Enjoying becoming a grandma.

For years, many people have been told to battle their anxiety.

Fight it.
Beat it.
Defeat it.

But what if part of the problem is that you've been fighting something that was actually trying to help?

One thing I've noticed over the years is that many fears, habits and anxious responses started with a purpose.

Protection.
Avoiding discomfort.
Trying to keep you safe.

The difficulty comes when that protection starts taking away the very

The confidence.
The sleep.
The freedom.

Sometimes change doesn't begin by fighting yourself.

You donโ€™t have to know exactly what you need to start making a change.

One question I often hear is:
โ€œDo I need hypnosis?โ€

Sometimes the better question is:
โ€œWhat has been keeping me stuck?โ€

Thatโ€™s what a Discovery Call explores.

A relaxed conversation about whatโ€™s been happening, the life youโ€™d like back, and whether I believe I can help.

Sometimes the first step isnโ€™t therapy.

Sometimes itโ€™s simply starting the right conversation.

Sometimes change starts with one question:

The mind doesn't usually stop you all at once...
It usually starts with one small decision.

"I won't go this time."
Then...
"I'll stay home instead."
Before long, one avoided situation quietly becomes ten.

Many people think anxiety suddenly takes over their lives.
It rarely does.
It happens gradually.

Not because you're weak.
Because your mind is trying to protect you.

The problem is...
An overprotective mind can end up protecting you from the very life you're trying to live.

The encouraging news?

I've seen people take holidays again.
Drive again.
Sleep again.
Say yes again.

Sometimes all it takes is understanding why your mind started protecting you in the first place.

Question:
Have you ever noticed one small avoidance quietly turning into something much bigger?

I used to think I had a sleep problem.

Looking back...
I don't think I did.
I had a stress problem.

An exam problem.
An on-call NHS problem.
A newborn baby problem.
A redundancy problem.

Sleep was simply where all those things showed up.

For years I tried the obvious solutions.
More tea.
More coffee.
Energy drinks.
Caffeine tablets.
Melatonin.
Staying up later.
Trying harder to sleep.

Eventually I realised something.
The harder I tried to sleep...
The more awake I became.

Today my sleep isn't perfect.
Nobody's is.
Sometimes I wake earlier than I'd like.
Sometimes I take a little longer to drift off.

The difference is...
It no longer bothers me.

Because I'm no longer fighting sleep.

I'm working with my mind instead of against it.

Sometimes changing the relationship with the problem changes the problem itself.

๐Ÿ‘ Pat Yourself On The Back

Most people are very good at noticing what they haven't done.

The unfinished jobs.๏ฟฝThe mistakes.๏ฟฝThe things they could have done better.

But when was the last time you stopped and acknowledged what you have done?

Finished the school run?๏ฟฝPat yourself on the back.

Had a difficult conversation?๏ฟฝPat yourself on the back.

Went for the walk even though you didn't feel like it?๏ฟฝPat yourself on the back.

Your mind responds surprisingly well to encouragement.

A bit like a child proudly showing you a drawing.

You don't point out what's wrong.

You smile.๏ฟฝYou encourage.๏ฟฝYou celebrate the effort.

Then they want to do more.

Perhaps it's time we treated ourselves with the same kindness.

What's one thing you've done well this week?

๐Ÿšช Doors of Choice

One thing I've noticed over the years is that fear has a habit of disguising itself as a lack of choice.

"I can't do that."
"I have no option."
"That's not for me.โ€

If we are fearful of Door B, and we only choose A because it feels safe, is it really a choice?

Confidence isn't about forcing yourself through every door.
It's about having the freedom to choose.

Often the door isn't locked.
We're just convinced it is.

The goal isn't to push yourself into things you don't want.
The goal is to regain the freedom to choose between the doors in front of you.

What door have you convinced yourself is locked?
