One of the greatest joys of being a music therapist is sharing moments of genuine connection, laughter, and happiness with the people I work with. Seeing a client engaged, comfortable, and enjoying the music reminds me why I love what I do.

Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together, creating opportunities for connection, growth, and joy, one smile at a time πŸ™‚πŸŽΆ

As a music therapist working with non-verbal clients, I regularly use Makaton to support communication, participation, and connection through music.

This visual shows the key differences between Makaton and British Sign Language (BSL). They are two powerful but very different systems.

Makaton combines speech, signs, and symbols to support understanding and expression, especially in therapeutic and educational settings. In contrast, BSL is a complete, fully independent language used within the Deaf community.

In music therapy sessions, Makaton helps clients access songs, rhythms, and interaction in a way that feels inclusive, predictable, and empowering, especially for those who are non-verbal or have additional communication needs.

Communication is never one-size-fits-all, and having the right tools can make all the difference.

Different tools. Shared connection. Accessible music for everyone. πŸ‘ŒπŸŽΆ

πŸ’š Mental Health Awareness Week πŸ’š

A gentle reminder to all of my families and clients that your mental health matters. It’s okay to slow down, ask for support, and take things one day at a time.

Music can provide comfort, connection, and a safe space to express emotions when words feel difficult.

Be gentle with yourself.

Hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Now it’s time to ease back into our rhythm of singing, creating, playing, and making music together again.

Whether it’s through familiar songs, improvisation, or simply exploring sounds, each session is a space to connect, express, and be heard.

Looking forward to another week of musical moments 🎢

Sometimes the sweetest moments are the simplest.

In this session, siblings come together to play the chimes, creating something beautiful side by side.

Music therapy offers a space where connection grows naturally, strengthening their bond through shared sound and gentle collaboration.

Because making music together is also about making memories together.

Today we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day! A beautiful reminder that every individual shines in their own unique way.

Music has the power to connect, heal, and uplift. Through music therapy, individuals with Down syndrome can express emotions, build confidence, and find joy in every beat, rhythm, and melody.

Those of us who have the privilege to meet and interact with individuals with Down syndrome know just how lucky we are, their warmth, honesty, and joy have a way of changing hearts and perspectives in the most meaningful way.

Let’s continue to create a world that listens, includes, and celebrates every voice. πŸŽΆπŸ‘ŒπŸΎ
