It’s time to connect 🖇️

With your body
With your emotions
With your loved ones
With the world around you

At the heart of all the most meaningful connections, is truly being yourself. I can’t connect with you the way I want to, if you aren’t being fully you 🫂

It’s scary, I get it, everyone longs to be really seen and understood, but it’s the most terrifying thing.

You’re enough, just as you are. You deserve the deep connection we all long for. So start with yourself. Make the time, sit, chat, drink tea, dance with yourself. You might find out you’re pretty cool 😘

A metaphor for Early Summer 👆🏼

You know that feeling when you’re throwing a party, and you’re in that moment of anticipation? That’s the feeling I get before every yoga class I teach - nervous, excited, curious 🤠

For me, that’s the feeling of Early Summer. Energy is building, where are we going to channel it? We are in a moment of potential 🚀

In our yoga practice, Early Summer invites us to open the fabric of the body, the fascia

It’s a living web of connective tissue that separates and connects everything within us, and through mindful movement we can begin to unravel tension, create space, and generate warmth from the inside out 🌞

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, imagine a great big web 🕸️ underneath your skin that looks a bit like this 👆🏼

For your asana, in Early Summer we want gentle and expansive movements: stretching, lengthening, and flowing energy outwards before drawing it gently back in again. Think wide open arms, heart-opening postures, and travelling across the mat, off the mat, away from the mat

This is a good moment to remind yourself in this season of the space that connects us that yoga is more than asana, it is in and of everything.

Everything is always connected 🫂

In Early Summer, the narrative shifts from Spring’s shoots and new beginnings to expansion 🌠

The natural world is flourishing, why don’t we join it?

At every opportunity ask yourself: Does this feel expansive? Does this create more spaciousness? If the answer is yes, follow that thread 🧵

I’ll be sharing more Seasonal Yoga asana, lifestyle and meditation tips as well as more juice from the YTT, let me know in the comments if there’s anything specific you want me to cover

Welcome to Early Summer

From today, til midsummer on 20th June, we’re in the early days.

In Seasonal Yoga we mark this transition, this inhale before the fiery exhale of high summer ❤️‍🔥

For the next month, we honour the element of space. Separate to air, space is the connector, it is what comes between and joins everything. Let’s try and create some space in the body and in the mind 🧘‍♀️

Let’s consider how we are connected to the world around us, all that separates me and you is the skin and space between us. Perhaps we are all closer to one another than we think 🫂

We’re in the warm up.

In Seasonal Yoga, the seasons change tomorrow. We move from Spring to Early Summer, from the element of Wood, to the element of space 🌌

This is the warm up for the high energy of true midsummer, we are preparing for the coming full potential of the season. Nature combines the growth of Spring with the expansion of Early Summer to reach its ripe fullness come August and September.

Can you feel the energy rising? How can you work with nature and collaborate with her vitality? 🌈

I know, I know - nobody likes homework

Except maybe we kind of do?

This month’s Seasonal Yoga YTT has a focus on breath, pranayama🎐

Breathing seems like an easy thing for homework, doesn’t it? It comes naturally. But have you ever interrogated how you breathe? 🫁

Are you working with your breath to create a better day for yourself?

So, this month’s homework: try a few different breathing practices. Take a moment, take a deep breath, and connect with the inhale, the exhale, and how you are feeling.

It’s a small thing, but it can make a huge difference to your day, to your peace of mind.

If you’re breathing well, your day will be better, I can promise you that.

A couple of pranayama practices to try:
🌬️Full Yogic Breath / Dirga
🌬️Alternate nostril breathing / Nadi Shodhana (what I’m doing in the video)
🌬️Equal inhale/exhale / Sama Vritti

Try it, let’s report back in the comments

hri to give
da to take
ya balance

Hridaya means literally that which gives and takes in perfect balance

Just like your heart is your centre for blood back and forth throughout your body, so hridaya is is your centre for giving and taking on a spiritual level🫀

Hridaya can also be a physical or meditation practice that focuses on awakening your heart 💛

By connecting with hridaya we are able to overcome attachments to individual emotions and our individual soul
Rather, we realise we are connected through our hearts to the whole of creation, and universal consciousness

No big deal

💗If you’d like to try with your spiritual heart, hridaya, trying meditating on the phrase “who am I” and see what comes up❤️‍🔥
