In yin yoga, we hold poses for longer to give the muscles a chance to release and so we can lengthen the deeper tissues which often hold tightness and discomfort. On a physical level, we are easing out tension and exploring our full range of motion.

My experience tells me that many people come to yin initially with the aim of increasing their flexibility, but what they come away with is so much more. By truly engaging in this highly meditative practice, the mental chatter can be quietened, the nervous system calmed, and we can learn how to fully relax and let go. More than ever right now, we all need more yin in our lives.

Yin yoga classes are Wednesdays 8-9.15pm and classes are on zoom. Message me if you would like more information or to join. This practice is suitable for beginners. First session is FREE and after that £10 per session. For more information visit www.jobriody.com.

At this week’s session, we embrace all things Autumn. I love the changing seasons and in particular the vibrant colours of the leaves during Autumn before they start to shed. This natural process is a great analogy for life; how we must let go in order to thrive.

This is a time of year for releasing and shedding what we don’t need to make space for the new. In yin yoga, we take time in the poses and encourage the muscles to fully relax in order to lengthen the deeper connective tissue. Often, we are not aware just how much we are still holding on, until we take time to consciously release. When we let go, we create more space and ease in both the body and mind.

This practice will be focusing on the upper body, to target the lung meridian and counteract rounded shoulders, with poses like Broken Wing and a nice long hold in Side Twist.

Yin yoga classes are Wednesdays 8-9.15pm and classes are on zoom. Message me if you would like more information or to join. This practice is suitable for beginners. First session is FREE and after that £10 per session. For more information visit www.jobriody.com.

Starting this Wednesday night, we will embrace the Autumn season and its theme of letting go. Each week, weaved into the practice will be poses that focus on the meridian of this season, the lung. It is located from the front of the shoulder all the way down the inner arm to the thumb and by creating tension in this area, we encourage tight areas in the upper body to lengthen and soften. After the heat and energy of the summer, we transition to the earth element and start to calm the energy with a practice that is grounding.

If you have never done yin yoga before, then this would be a great time to start.

Yin yoga classes are Wednesday's 8-9.15pm on zoom. Message me if you would like more information or to join. This practice is suitable for beginners. Classes cost £10 and the first session is FREE. For more information visit www.jobriody.com.
