Petty spurge (Euphorbia peplus) is effective against human nonmelanoma skin cancers.

The sap has been used as a traditional treatment for a number of cancers.

An active ingredient of E. peplus sap has been identified as ingenol mebutate (PEP005).

A clinical study affirms success with peplus sap, and supports further clinical development of PEP005 for the treatment of BCC, SCC and IEC.

I am now harvesting my Petty spurge to infuse in an oil to create a salve.

Petty spurge is a caustic plant and should be handled with care.

It is quite rare to find Borago officinalis in the wild, but it is possible. I have it growing in my garden for use in my herbal clinic. More details soon about Borage.

The Ebers Papyrus — written around 1550 BCE and one of the oldest surviving medical documents — specifically prescribes raw honey as a primary wound treatment. Egyptian military physicians packed open wounds with honey rather than closing them. For centuries this was dismissed as folk medicine with no rational basis.

Modern microbiology identified three simultaneous mechanisms that explain exactly why it worked.

Raw honey has a water activity level so low that bacteria cannot survive in it — they dehydrate and die on contact. Its natural hydrogen peroxide content provides continuous low-level antimicrobial activity. And its viscosity creates a physical barrier that seals the wound from external contamination while allowing gas exchange.

These three mechanisms working simultaneously produce wound healing outcomes that modern clinical studies have confirmed match or exceed many pharmaceutical wound care products.

The Ebers Papyrus was not recording superstition. It was recording clinical observation that modern microbiology needed three thousand years to explain.

Phlomis fruticosa.

Wound Healing: Applied as a poultice or plaster (often made from dried or fresh leaves) to heal skin infections, lesions, burns, and wounds.

Pain Relief: Traditionally used to relieve muscle and joint pain.

Essential oils have shown positive activity against various pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Jerusalem sage is now growing in my herbal garden. When ready, it will be harvested to extract the compounds from the leaves and stems, to create an oil infusion.

The oil can be used neat on the skin, added to creams, soaps or used as a carrier oil for essential oil applications.

Ulex Europaeus
Gorse

A flower filled with the essence of happiness.

Its compounds have been used traditionally for eczema, ringworm, dermatitis and other skin conditions

Ulex europaeus has strong antifungal properties that help heal ringworm and athlete's foot quickly.

The quinolizidine alkaloids (such as lupanine and cytisine) in the plant also offer defense against fungal pathogens.

Fungal pathogens are fungi that cause disease in humans, animals, or plants. While most of the estimated 2.2 to 3.8 million fungal species are beneficial decomposers, approximately 300 species are known to cause human disease. These infections kill an estimated 1.5 to 2 million people annually, a figure comparable to or exceeding deaths from tuberculosis or malaria.

Ulex europaeus extracts are being used to help some of the most dangerous Fungal pathogens.

As an infused flower oil I use Ulex europaeus for minor fungal infections.
