NEW Infant Feeding Survey 2024 Results Are In

The good news? More families in England are starting their breastfeeding journey than ever before.

💜 94% of mothers who started breastfeeding were still breastfeeding at 1 week.
💜 82% were still breastfeeding at 6 weeks.
💜 68% continued breastfeeding for at least 6 months.

However, the survey also highlights that exclusive breastfeeding rates fall significantly over time:
▪️ 56% at 1 week
▪️ 47% at 6 weeks
▪️ 26% at 6 months

Many parents begin their breastfeeding journey with the intention of exclusively breastfeeding but encounter challenges along the way. Difficulties with latch, pain, milk transfer, weight gain concerns, unsettled feeding, reflux symptoms and undiagnosed tongue-tie can all make breastfeeding much harder than it should be. (GOV.UK⁠)

At Tongue-Tie Northwest, we see every day how early, skilled support can make a huge difference. Our comprehensive feeding assessments don’t just look at tongue-tie, we assess the whole feeding relationship, helping families understand why feeding is difficult and what support is available.

Breastfeeding is a learned skill for both baby and parent. Sometimes all that’s needed is reassurance and practical support. Sometimes babies need help overcoming challenges such as tongue-tie, tension, positioning difficulties or ineffective milk transfer.

Every family deserves evidence-based, compassionate support to meet their feeding goals. ❤️

Because feeding support doesn't end with the procedure itself. Babies need time to learn new feeding patterns, parents often need further support and healing can affect feeding in so many different way.
For those needing more after the follow up we will often suggest that you upgrade to our enhanced package to allow us to offer the support that you need.
