Northgate Village Surgery

Northgate Village Surgery Northgate Village Surgery is a friendly well established GP training practice established in 1991 We also have additional doctors called registrars.

Northgate Village Surgery is a friendly well established GP training practice. The doctors and staff here at Northgate Village in Chester are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery

, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups. As our surgery is a teaching practice we occasionally have groups of medical students working with us to further their education. During their time with us, they are required to sit in during appointments from time to time. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please inform a member of staff when you book your appointment or as soon as possible on arrival. Registrars usually work with us for a year, helping them become fully qualified GP's. We are open five days a week Monday-Friday 8:00am-6:30pm and are closed during weekends and bank holidays. Once a month the practice closes for training between 12:00-5:00pm (Further information with the dates are allocated on our website). The majority of our surgeries are run on an appointment system where you can ring us on 01244 564319 or book online via patient access to arrange a routine appointment if you are a patient here at Northgate Village Surgery. For more urgent matters that should be dealt with on the day, we provide a Duty Doctor Telephone Triage system where you will be contacted by the Duty Doctor who will ring you back to discuss your problem. They will advise you or make an appointment for you to be seen when they feel appropriate. We also have routine Doctor and Nurse telephone appointments available where they will call you back after their morning surgery to discuss test results, travel advice and other health advice that can be dealt with over routinely over the telephone. For those housebound we can offer Home Visits from a doctor or assistance from the District Nurse team. Social Networking Policy:

β˜€οΈ Hot weather & mental health medication – what you need to know
Some medications, including antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs) and antipsychotics, can affect how your body handles heat. This may increase the risk of overheating, dehydration, or heat exhaustion [rethink.org]

πŸ’Š Common examples in the UK:

SSRIs: citalopram, sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine
SNRIs: venlafaxine, duloxetine
Antipsychotics: olanzapine, risperidone, quetiapine, haloperidol

⚠️ Why this matters:

Antipsychotics can reduce your body’s ability to cool itself
Antidepressants may cause increased sweating and fluid loss
You may not feel thirst or heat as easily [rethink.org]

⚠️ Watch out for:

Dizziness or feeling faint
Heavy sweating or feeling unusually hot
Nausea, confusion, or signs of heat exhaustion

βœ… Stay safe in the heat:

Drink water regularly
Wear loose, light clothing
Keep cool indoors or in shaded areas
Avoid peak sun where possible [rethink.org]

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Important:
If you’re concerned about symptoms, contact your GP.
Do not stop your medication without medical advice.
