"It's my age."

Maybe.

Or maybe you've spent the last 20 years asking the same muscles to do the same jobs every single day and never giving them a chance to reset.

This delivery driver might open a van door 200 times, twist 200 times, carry 100+ parcels, and repeat the same movements day after day.

Now add years of driving, gardening, shopping, washing up, desk work, and gym sessions.

Your body adapts to what you repeatedly do.

The real question is:

How often do you stretch, move, and recover compared to how often you load the system?

If the answer is "rarely" or "never," then perhaps it's not age creeping in.

Perhaps it's accumulated tension asking for attention.

Your body doesn't need to be younger.

You need to work smarter with your body.

It needs better maintenance.

More and more, I’m seeing people privately who are stuck in pain while waiting for physiotherapy.

I’m fully pro-NHS, and I always encourage people to keep their appointments, no matter how long the wait is. The system plays a vital role, especially for rehab and long-term recovery.

But here’s the reality: when someone is in acute or persistent pain, waiting months isn’t neutral — it often means deterioration.

NHS physiotherapy is ideally positioned for people who are already out of pain or medically stable, ready to build strength, restore function, and progress capacity. It’s not designed for immediate pain resolution in most non-urgent cases.

That gap is where a lot of people get stuck.
Because when you’re in pain, “just exercise more” isn’t the answer. First, you need to understand what’s driving the pain, how to reduce it, and how to safely reintroduce movement without aggravation. That shift alone can change everything. In many cases, one focused session is enough to give clarity, direction, and immediate relief strategies.

What I’m seeing now is that waiting lists aren’t just delays — they’re allowing conditions to worsen to the point where cases become urgent and more complex than they needed to be.

More and more, I am seeing patients privately who are struggling with pain, while still waiting for physiotherapy.
I am pro-NHS, and I encourage everyone to retain their appointment, no matter how long it takes. But in the meantime, one private physio session makes such a difference.
The physio waiting list, is not here to work with acute issues, with that pain that needs help straight away, unless it is an urgent case.
The NHS waiting list makes it easier to wait if you get there pain-free and ready to progress to strengthening your muscles to improve your function.

But when you are in pain, exercise isn't the solution. But helping you understand how to reduce your pain, manage it, and even progress to normal function is where you will be incredibly surprised that 'one session is all it takes' to help you feel better about yourself.

Don't wait, I am seeing a lot of damage out there. Enough that the waiting list isn't necessary anymore because patients are deteriorating to the point of becoming urgent.

Why do I say stretch them? And not have them do it independently.

Because we can't expect them to stretch regularly out of their own choices for many reasons.
If you don't know the stretches yourself, then we can expect them to know either.
Also, stretching is a behaviour for preventive measures and not just to heal from injuries.

Younger footballers are more exposed to new tricks and even mental health issues in older footballers. Why not become more aware of their bodies and how to maintain their bodies healthy?
They will be expected to show these traits before being selected.

Just like hygiene, switching the light off, flushing the toilet, these are behavioural moments that we need to wait for them to understand. Because at the end of the day, they are children and they are busy in their heads with their own little worlds.
