ARE YOUR FEET TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING? 🤔

One of the most common things we see in clinic is hard, thickened or painful skin on the feet. It may be underneath, at the sides or on the tops or between toes. You may have tried removing it yourself but it comes back, or maybe you just don’t know what it is, or what to do about it.

That’s what we are here for 👣😊

We are trained to look at what’s going on, why it has arisen, and the most appropriate way to manage it. Chances are treatment will be simple, gentle and painless to restore your comfort, then work with you going forward to prevent it re-occuring.

So if something is troubling you, you don’t need to tolerate it any longer, get in touch

There really is no such thing as a “bad” pair of feet. 👣

Feet change, they get dry, cracked, misshapen and sometimes neglected when life gets in the way. But they keep on carrying you around, which is, after all what they’re there for.

Their job isn’t to look perfect, it’s to keep you mobile, active and doing the things you enjoy.

So when you come to see us, you don’t need to feel embarrassed about how your feet look.

We’re not here to judge, our job is to help you look after them.

Sometimes the first step towards healthier, happier feet is simply feeling comfortable enough to ask for help. ❤️

☀️ Why do our feet and ankles swell in hot weather?

If your shoes suddenly feel tighter, or your toenails start digging in during the summer, you’re not imagining it!

When we are hot, our blood vessels widen to help cool us down. This allows fluid to leak into the surrounding tissues, and gravity pulls it down into the feet and ankles. Add to the mix dehydration from sweating, together with prolonged sitting or standing such as on a long car journey or flight, and the swelling can become even more noticeable.

There are a number of underlying health conditions that can contribute to oedema, but if it’s caused by the heat, it usually settles on its own. The best way to help yourself is to keep moving. Walk whenever you can, do ankle circles, wiggle your toes, stay well hydrated and put your feet up after a long day. Movement is one of the best ways to encourage healthy circulation.

It’s also a good reminder not to squeeze swollen feet into tight shoes. Choose footwear that gives your feet room to move, and when you’re home, spend some time barefoot (where it’s safe to do so) to let your feet work naturally.

If your swelling is sudden, affects only one leg, is painful, or is associated with redness or shortness of breath, seek medical advice promptly.

👣 How’s your balance?
Your feet play a bigger role than you might think

⏱️Can you stand on one leg for 30 seconds?
If you feel unsteady, your body may be highlighting a balance gap.

Single leg balance isn’t just a test of stability, it’s a great way to strengthen your feet, ankles, hips and core, whilst also improving coordination, supporting bone health, and reducing your risk of falls.

Your feet and ankles contain sensors that tell your brain where you are in space. When they’re weak or stiff, balance becomes harder, and since every step involves brief single-leg support, this matters more than most people think.

💪 The good news: balance can be trained

Simple daily habits help:
✔️ Stand on one leg while waiting for the kettle
✔️ Heel-to-toe walking
✔️ Ankle circles
✔️ Yoga or t’ai chi

As we age, maintaining balance becomes just as important as maintaining strength. A few minutes of practice each day can help you stay active, confident, and independent for longer.

Start safely, use support if needed, and build gradually.

👣Keep your feet strong …. they are the foundation of your movement

🩺 Whole-Body Health & Your Feet
Mobility Matters – Movement is Medicine

Did you know that one of the best ways to stay independent as we age is to keep working on three simple things?

💪 Strength
🤸 Flexibility
⚖️ Balance

Together, these help us stay mobile, confident and independent.

Chair Yoga is a great way to improve all three, through a variety of gentle seated and standing movements, with the chair providing support, in a safe welcoming and enjoyable environment.

At our clinic, we know that healthy ageing is about much more than feet. We’re passionate about helping people stay active because stronger muscles, better balance and improved flexibility can make walking easier, reduce the risk of falls, boost confidence and help you keep doing the things you love.

So if you are looking for a gentle, effective way to support your health and wellbeing, why not give chair yoga a try? It’s suitable for all abilities and is a great way to build strength, improve flexibility and support balance.

👣 Strong feet are the foundation of good movement.

Your feet work hard every day, yet they’re often overlooked when it comes to exercise.

Simple foot exercises can help improve strength, mobility, flexibility and balance, supporting better movement and making everyday activities feel easier.

Take a few minutes to work through these exercises and see which one you find most challenging.

Healthy feet start with healthy habits, and a few simple exercises are a great place to begin 💪
