Welcome to episode 1 in this series of chats called “Why Yoga and AI Cannot Co-exist”, where I walk us through the eight limbed path of Patañjali, and we develop our understanding of why AI flies directly in the face of, not only everything the wellness industry claims to stand for, but more specifically, yoga.

If you are a yoga teacher (and indeed a wellness pro!), or simply have a keen interest in wellness, yoga, and AI, then this series is for you, diva!

Today we are focusing specifically on ahimsā, which translates to non-violence. According to Patañjali “Himsā means to cause pain, thus ahimsā means not to cause pain. Even by your words and your thoughts, you can cause pain”.

This is explained further when we consider that “We need not even cause the pain directly for the reaction to occur”.

This is what happens when we use GenAI, such as ChatGPT; I specifically reference ChatGPT because it is the single largest donor of the Trump administration.

Every time a person uses GenAI to create a guided meditation, social media script or caption, they are directly feeding into a machine that is ultimately being used for harm, and to cause pain to every single one of us, globally.

That is himsā, the opposite of ahimsā. I remind you of the quote from this book, “We need not even cause the pain directly for the reaction to occur”.

Just because something does not directly affect you, does not give you the right to turn a blind eye, especially if you are a wellness pro who claims to “love Mother Earth”. Your use of GenAI to create meditation guides is literally ra**ng her of her water reserves. If you are a yoga teacher who talks about ahimsā in your practices, but you used GenAI to create your latest social media caption, you have both directly and indirectly enaged in himsā (causing pain).

You didn’t use it before it became popular (popular does not equate to cool by the way!), so I encourage you to ask yourself why you feel the need to use it now? I’m also interested to know if you’ll use it again after watching this video?

Ignorance is not bliss, diva! Let’s use our privilege for good!!

In this month’s FREE online community practice we begin with lateral breathing.

Typically utilised during Pilates workouts, lateral breathing can sometimes feel more accessible than breathing deep into the belly, because we’re taking the breath to the sides of the torso, towards the ribs.

It encourages the ribs to expand outwards (laterally), creating space for the breath to move to the sides and the back of the ribcage.

I find it helpful to imagine I’m filling the gaps between my ribs with the air I breathe in.

The benefits of lateral breathing include:
• Brings awareness to our posture, which in turn can help to improve it
• Brings clarity and focus to the mind
• Helps to relax the muscles, and eases tension
• Promotes mobility of the ribcage, as the ribcage is used to its full movement potential

How to practice lateral breathing:
• Place your hands on your rib cage
• As you inhale imagine you’re trying to push your hands away from your body. This will take your breath to the sides of the torso allowing your ribcage to expand
• As you exhale, purse your lips and try to extend it to slightly longer than your inhale, notice your ribs and hands be drawn back to the centre of your body
• I use a cool visual aid to help with this as well

It’s officially Gemini season divas (or otherwise known as yapping season 😅) , and this month is all about communication, socialising and connecting with others.

Mercury is here in her home sign of Gemini along with the Sun so being a social butterfly will likely feel a lot more comfortable right now. Make the most of this energy!

It also shines a huge light on how we engage and communicate with the wider world, and how we interpret our reality. With Venus in Cancer there’s also a call to speak our truths, but with kindness and care.

And with the rise of GenAI, what truths have you been holding back on? Are you sharing YOUR truth or are you sharing a diluted version of it generated by ChatGPT?

People want, and need, to hear YOUR VOICE diva! Be brave. Have courage. Share your truth and your honesty with the world. It’s what people love about you so stop holding back, stop acting small. Be okay with taking up space that was meant FOR YOU!

Why AI and Yoga Cannot Co-exist (Part 2).

I’ve really noticed more and more people, who I love to support and engage with on here, are using AI to write their posts, captions and scripts, and last night was the last straw so I really had a rant on my stories, because AI is so gross.

And it was Rylee who said “it’s not very ahimsā is it?” And I was like you are absolutely the f**k right, it is very himsā! Ahimsā is the first of the yama, in the 8 limbed path of Patañjali, and it means non-violence. Himsā is violence. Using AI is active violence.

So I got angry, and I ranted, and then I got sad and wanted to cry, and then I just felt really disappointed that people who I view as intelligent would even want to use AI to generate something that is not them, does not reflect their personality or character, and does not even sound like them.

Yes, it is really THAT OBVIOUS when you’re using AI, and it’s embarrassing because I know you are more intelligent and more magical than AI could ever be!! And it is YOU that I want to engage with, not AI slop!

So after felt angry, sad and disappointed, I decided to use this as an opportunity to share the knowledge I have gained of AI, through my own research for my Masters degree over the last two years, with you.

Because KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, and I believe that with my whole heart. I also don’t want my feed to be diluted with AI slop.

If you work in the wellness industry (or are just interested in why AI is so gross) then this is the series for you, and I WANT you to engage with me on this. I want the questions, I want the input, because that means I’ll research some more and I get to share that with you - WIN WIN!

Idk how frequently I will share these videos but this is something I feel strongly about, and if you are a wellness professional I believe you should care too.

Gemini season is almost upon us, divas! So take the next few days to rest, charge up your social battery and fill up your cup in the best ways you know how, because from 16th May, you might find you become a bit of a social butterfly.

You’ll feel good for it too, just take the time to really nurture yourself as well, and find joy and pleasure in how you nurture yourself.

Take note of who your safe people are, who you feel safe and comfortable being vulnerable with. Speak from the heart diva, the time is right, even if it’s difficult.

Keep watching for a card pull that’s very Gemini season, and applies to us both as individuals and collectively. I finish by sharing a mudrā to help you trust your own inner wisdom during this lunar transit.
