I'm not sure this is real 🤣
But they're right about the fines 😳
If you don't have a waterways licence on waterways that require on, you could be fined up to £1000.
Best to get a licence, better still, Paddle UK On-the-water membership - it includes one ☺️
South Wales Police Launch New Paddleboard Enforcement Squad.
A new police paddleboard squad is set to take to the water as officers prepare to crack down on unlicensed paddleboarders across the region’s inland waterways.
The specialist team will patrol rivers, canals and reservoirs, checking that paddleboard users have the required licences. Anyone caught using a paddleboard without the appropriate licence could face a fine of up to £1,000.
Police say the new patrols will help keep waterways safe while ensuring everyone follows the rules. Officers believe local residents will appreciate seeing the regulations properly enforced.
PC Paul Lodd told FLN News: “I can’t wait to spend all day zipping up and down the waterways on this. Tax payer's money well spent.”
The new police motorised paddleboards come equipped with flashing blue lights, police sirens and an impressive top speed. Allowing officers to make their presence known while patrolling the waterways.
The force says the squad will also be on hand to offer advice and remind water users about their responsibilities.
So, if you’re planning to take your paddleboard out this summer, make sure your licence is in order.
Otherwise, that leisurely paddle could become a very expensive trip.
