Jo Kitts Yoga Private and public classes held in Chippenham, Marshfield and surrounding areas. Blending traditiona

I teach hatha yoga, the asana (movement) part of my classes tends to be slow(ish) moving and alignment focused. Classes can be challenging, stimulating, or soft and nurturing depending on the circumstances. A human biologist by training I take a pretty down to earth approach and I am particularly fascinated with the effects that the practices can have on our physiology in helping to maintain physi

cal integrity, support the immune system and calm the nervous system. I am also interested in yogic philosophy particularly relating the ancient teachings to modern day themes and the everday emotional challenges that touch us all at some point in our lives. Primarily I aim for my classes to be friendly, open and accessible to all - quite simply I want you to leave the room feeling better than you did when you came in!

There’s something very satisfying about seeing the new mats unpacked and all the props finally finding their place. We’re ready for opening day tomorrow!

The 11am class is now full, but I still have a few spaces in Community Yoga at 9.30am tomorrow morning (Monday 7th September).

It’s a friendly, welcoming class with time to move, build mobility and balance, and finish with a lovely relaxation. Beginners are very welcome.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, there’s still time to join us for our very first morning at the new Wise, Wild & Well studio.

A little website update...

The new Wise, Wild & Well website is now live 🥰.

Jo Kitts Yoga isn’t going anywhere — that will still be the home for my regular yoga teaching and Mindful Strength. The new Wise, Wild & Well website is where you’ll find everything happening at the studio, alongside retreats, workshops and other events.

Mindful Strength is back this autumn 🏋‍♀

My next 8-week Mindful Strength course starts in a couple of weeks. In person classes are now full but there are still spaces available to join the friendly online group from home.

Mindful Strength is for women aged 40+ who want to get stronger, feel confident using weights and make strength training a regular part of their week - without needing to go to a gym.

We meet live on Zoom on Monday evenings, working with simple, effective exercises using some basic weights (don't worry you won't need to invest in a load of expensive kit). It’s a supportive group, with plenty of guidance and different options so you can work at the right level for you.

And it’s much more than the weekly class. You’ll have your own personal strength programme to work on between sessions, and we’ll track your progress across the eight weeks, this really helps you see the difference you’re making and stay motivated.

You’ll also have access to short video practices and tutorials, making it easier to fit little bits of strength work into your week rather than relying on one longer session.

Recordings of the weekly classes are included too, so if you can’t make a Monday evening, you can catch up at a time that suits you.

Online Mindful Strength
Mondays · 6–7pm · live on Zoom
8-week course · recordings included
Personal programme & progress tracking
Short video practices & technique support

If strength training is something you know you should be doing but you’ve struggled to get started - or to keep going - Mindful Strength gives you the structure, support and encouragement to make it part of your week.

MEET THE CLASSES: CHAIR YOGA

Our Thursday chair yoga group in Marshfield is a lovely mix of women and men who come together to move, stretch and enjoy each other’s company.

We use the chair for support as we work on mobility, flexibility and balance, with time for breathing and relaxation too. There’s no getting up and down from the floor, and I’ll offer different options so you can find what feels right for you.

There’s usually a bit of a chat and a laugh along the way, feeling part of the group matters just as much as the movement. (This is a stock photo, our group looks a lot happier 😆)

If you’re new to yoga or returning to movement after a break, you’ll be very welcome.

Thursdays · 12–12.35pm
Marshfield Community Centre
£6.50 drop-in, or £5 per class when booking the full term.

You can find out more below, or send me a message if you’d like to come along. It would be lovely to welcome you.

The autumn term is nearly here.

Classes return from 3rd September, and after the summer break I’m looking forward to getting back to our regular weekly practice together.

As we move from late summer into autumn and the nights begin to draw in, our practices will reflect the changing season — gradually becoming a little more grounding and steady.

We’ll also be spending some time exploring the hips. Not just stretching them, but working with mobility, strength and stability.

As always, there will be plenty of variety along the way, with breathwork, balance, and quieter practices woven through the term.

Whether you’re returning after the summer or thinking about joining a class for the first time, you’ll be very welcome.

I’m looking forward to seeing you back on the mat.

Yesterday I taught my last Sunday morning zoom class 🥲

What started as a hasty and, frankly, terrifying way of keeping us practising together during those very odd early days of lockdown somehow carried on for more than six years.

After our last class, two lovely students sent me their memories of those Sunday mornings and I thought I'd share them, because they brought back so much I'd completely forgotten.

One went back to the journal she kept throughout Covid and found these entries:

24 March 2020
“At 6.30 Jo K broadcast a 10 minute meditation over Facebook. It took a while to get on board but made it just in time. It was a very welcome, calming session. ‘Be well, be safe, be at ease’.”

26 March 2020
“Booked two yoga classes to be delivered over Zoom – interesting!”

29 March 2020
“Today we had our first ‘proper’ yoga session with Jo – ‘Self Care Sunday’ over Zoom – it was excellent. A little more demanding than what I was expecting but that’s good! Around 20 people joined in. We were muted during class but could hear and see everyone as they joined and left the class.”

She went on to say:
“I remember that we were so impressed that you rose to the challenge so successfully. Your yoga sessions offered a bright light during such a grim time.

Thank you for instilling in us the discipline of practising yoga twice a week.”

Another student remembered those early days too:

“I remember those early days when screens froze, sound disappeared or Zoom just failed to turn up and tune in, but our little community came together and carried on and on and on.
In those first few weeks I would lie on my mat with a shallow, racing breath and heart pounding. By the end of the hour I would feel calm, more settled and know it would be OK.

How things have changed. I now come to the mat and feel a sense of ‘ahhh, this is for me’. I have learnt so much about myself and my body and can't thank you enough. THANK YOU.

I'm so looking forward to joining you in person for another adventure.”

I can't quite believe how many Sunday mornings we've shared since that first one in March 2020. I'm going to miss this loyal little group, but it does feel like the right time to finish. And with the studio opening, hopefully there will be plenty more opportunities to unroll our mats together – sometimes even in the same room!

Thank you to everyone who's been part of it. 💚

The final week of term brought us to Lammas (or Lughnasadh), the first harvest of the year.

It's the time when plants and trees stop reaching for the light and begin to bear fruit and seed. Rather than continuing to strive for growth, they simply offer what has already been cultivated.

In Western culture we're conditioned to believe that happiness lies just beyond where we are now - after the next promotion, the next purchase or the next milestone. It's easy to become so focused on what's next that we forget to notice what is already here.

This season invites something different. It encourages us to pause, to recognise the abundance that already exists in our lives, and to practise gratitude for all that has quietly grown.

Rather than always reaching for more, let's rest, just for a while, in the fullness of summer 🌻.
