The team are just back from 5 days training in the Lake District, taking in some Wainwrights & Birketts whilst conducting some personal navigation training too.

Our base was at Castlerigg Farm Campsite just outside Keswick which is a great place to stay, especially with all its facilities and being so close to the town and many walking routes too.

We had planned to complete 5 varied routes, high and low level taking in ridges, Grade 1 Scrambles and Explorer routes too however, with the poor conditions and gusting winds we only managed 3 of these.

Nevertheless we managed to take in:
6 Wainwrights:
Red Pike 755m, High style 807m, High Crag 744m, High Seat 608m, Bleaberry Fell 590m & Walla Crag 379m

Along with 3 other Birketts too:
Dodd 641m, Seat 561m & Dodd 502m

The others will be there for another trip!

We managed to squeeze in a short explorer day around Rydal on the journey back south which could have easily been extended or used as a wet weather day as there was so much to do. We took in a short section of the , Rydal Hall, lake and caves.

We had time for a quick beer at Badgers Bar, before the final leg of our journey.

There is so much still much to do in the area and so much we, as a team still want to complete... and not just in the lakes!

I personally now head into 5 days of back course delivery then planning and admin for future trips.

Details of all our routes can be found on Mountain Adventures & Training with route fly throughs and maps provided.

After a week of course delivery, it's been great to be back outside soaking up the sunshine whilst training in Mid Wales.

We based ourselves in Ponterwyd with a loose plan to complete some hill days and hit the coast too.

Given the weather, Friday we did a tough cross country route to take in Drygarn Fawr 645m.

Saturday we completed two short coastal routes. The first a figure of 8 loop around Ynyslas followed by a linear from Aberdyfi to Tywyn with a return by train (a really good option on this type of route).

Sunday was another hill day to take in the Crugyn Ci trig at 533m from the Penygarreg Reservoir. We didn't see a soul!
Probably as these peaks are some of the most remote in the Cambrian Mountain Range.

Today it was a short explorer day at Gilfach Nature reserve followed by a visit to the Red Kite Feed Station in Rhayader and dinner in Abergavenny to break up the return trip across the boarder.

Detailed route information can be found on Mountain Adventures & Training.

We now have 10 days of course delivery and admin before heading to The Lakes to tick off a few more Wainwrights and more training prior to heading back out to the in September.

Upper Limits UK use the Hiiker mapping app in support of map & Compass, Harvey Maps where possible, LOWA hiking boots and shoes along with Mac in a Sac & Páramo Directional Clothing.

Who was in the Bannau Brycheiniog - Brecon Beacons - National Park this weekend?

We headed over for two great new routes for us and the walking group.

Saturday saw us take in a great route up onto Crug Mawr (i would change our route off if done again) and today, it was Tor y Foel.

This weekend has been extremely memorable and probably one of the best weekends I have had in the park. You don't need to go high or take in well know peaks to enjoy fantastic routes in the area so head over to Mountain Adventures & Training for detailed route information especially if your looking at gaining the Hill and Moorland Leader Qualification with Mountain Training.

The Walking group head to Portishead next for a coastal walk (for a change).

A huge congratulations to Lynda Hole (A NNAS Tutor with us) who has just completed and bagged every peak (named and unnamed) & ring contour in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Lyn started her journey with us just under 5 years again having never climbed a mountain previously. Her list of achievements is massive and spreads across Dartmoor, Exmoor, The Quantocks, The Mendips, The Malverns, The Cambrians, Snowdonia and The Lake District not to mention most of the Counties across the South West were she has completed their highest peaks and many more. The list is crazy! 🤪

For those looking to take on this challenge the head over to Mountain Adventures & Training were all the peaks and grid references for the ring contours can be found. Today's route fly through and route details can also be found there.

Lyn is a huge inspiration to all and an ambassador for Upper Limits.
Why not jump onto one of our navigation & map reading courses or guided walks and chat with Lyn about her experiences.

Well, the forecast for yesterday was just about spot on - four seasons in a day.

Started this route from Glyntawe, taking in the steep climb up to Fan Hir, then Fan Brycheiniog, dropping to Llyn y Fan Fawr and off via the Beacons Way.

The full route, fly through and map can be found on Mountain Adventures & Training.

After delivering other courses this week, we head back to the park next weekend for Lynda to tick off her final 600m plus ring contour. This will mean she has completed every peak (named or otherwise) & ring contour over 600m in the whole of the park.

In May the Walking group will take in Crug Mawr and another route on Tor y Foel overlooking the Talybont reservoir.

Sorry LOWA, needed something bright in my Randirs that needed new laces! Still a fantastic boot and now good to go again this coming weekend on the Beacons.

My Maddox Pro will again be my go to Approach shoe as in approaching the Brecon Beacons from just over the bridge on the drive on Saturday.

Upper Limits UK recommend being fitted by the experts at LOWA and swear by their walking boots & trail shoes. All our team use LOWA 💪💪🤟👍🏻👍🏻
